Can I put four of these together for an 8 x 20 dock.

I will want to be able to remove these docks for the winter and will need to be able to take them apart for on-shore storage. I was also looking for hardware to connect the four sections. They will need to fit together closely since there will be small children using the dock.

I see that someone has asked if the product is "marine grade," and I saw the answers. But I'm wondering about this unit for use in salt water. Are the materials in the frame and floats suitable for salt-water use?

We have only extensively tested our products in fresh water situations. Salt Water or "brackish" water will effect the hot dipped galvanized metal hardware. According to the American Galvanizers Association, Galvanized coatings provide considerable protection to steel immersed in sea water and exposed to salt spray. The factors that influence the corrosion of zinc in fresh water also apply to sea water. However, it is the dissolved salts (primarily sulfides and chlorides) in sea water that are the principal determinants of the corrosion behavior of zinc immersed in sea water. Given the high level of chloride in sea water, a very high rate of zinc corrosion might be expected. However, the presence of magnesium and calcium ions in sea water has a strong inhibiting effect on zinc corrosion in this type of environment. Are the floatation units hollow or filled with a closed-cell foam? Also, what kind of tools are needed for assembly? Thanks.

PlayStar Marine Dock Floats PS 1155 are not filled with any additional materials. We do not fill them so that if the float somehow would get punctured or torn open there are no additional contaminants or harmful materials to impact the environment or wildlife. Our Floats have 500 lbs of buoyancy each and will float in as little as 1 1/2" of water. The floats are attached with 3/8" lag screws or bolts depending on the type of frame.
