CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 15 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Small stove that works well overall I've had small stoves before in previous houses and this one measures up very well. I have had no trouble getting a good fire going and the overall construction of the stove is very good for the price. When it was delivered one small firebrick was loose on the side, but that's about it. You've got to cut your wood to just shy of 16" for it to fit and there's not a ton of room to stack it up, but this thing gets very hot with a bed of coals and a couple dry pieces of wood. Blower works well and it drafts very well, too. Overall I am very happy with this stove and glad I didn't spend twice as much for something else. For those who have issues, the wood you burn MUST be seasoned and dry. Our chimney is also within recommended specs at 14' tall. The only small issue I have with this thing is that the draft/air control lever seems to do practically nothing. But if you need more air, keep the door open about 1/4" for a few minutes and it does great. December 10, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect little stove I purchased this as the primary heat for a large room and it over exceeds my expectations! It heats wonderfully looks really good and the installation was fairly easy. October 29, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by It is what it says it is It has been ten days since we lit the first fire in this stove. Except for cleanouts every 2-3 days, it has burned continuously ever since. On day seven we plumbed the underside vent of the stove straight through the floor to draw air from under the house because our new home (777 sq. ft.) is very tightly sealed. Plus, drawing outside air into the stove means you are not drawing cold outside air into the house. It instantly made a difference. A good one. The stove itself is actually quite good, particularly considering its' price. Certainly we wish we could have bought a top tier brand, but $3,000 or more is just too much for us. So this stove, with its low price, EPA rating, and its specifications is a bargain. We gave this stove five stars because ultimately it met, and even exceeded, our needs and expectations. However there were and are serious issues to consider: 1) This is a small stove. Unless you live in a very well insulated, perfectly sealed home, you will not be able to heat it's rated 1,200 sq. ft. home without running it very hot continuously, and then having to clean it out regularly. (Like daily.) After all, it is what it says it is, and you can only stuff so much into it. Regular cleanings adds the problem of disposing hot ashes all the time, or cooling the stove fully all the time, which defeats the purpose of the thing somewhat. If you have a 1,200 sq. ft. home, buy a bigger stove. This stove is good for 600 sq. ft. and under. 2) Home Depot was great, the ordering on line was easy, and our HD pick-up store crew in Ukiah was wonderful as usual. The stove distributor, GHP, on the other hand doesn't actually appear to exist in our opinion. The stove was received by us with two busted bricks and some bare metal marring on the top, due to abysmal packaging, and busted double pallets. I registered the stove with GHP and then tried to reach customer service online, only to get the same warranty registration page where I used the comments section to ask what to do about the damage. No response. Wrote another email. No response. Called them three times over three days. Put on auto-hold forever each time. No live bodies. No response. A pointless exercise in futility. Any other product would have gone back. But a 220 pound stove I nearly busted my gut getting into the house? My experience indicates you will likely have to solve any problems yourself. Or be very strong. Or have three strapping sons who you can boss around to tote your stove back. 3) This is not a stove to use if you do not have access to 18" and under dry hard wood, unless you don't mind stoking it every hour. (18" DOES fit with a slight angled entry but 16" is easier.) We start it up with fir, build a bed, and then switch to oak. It is, in fact, a very controllable, very good burning stove. We can get it to cook all night with just two baloney-rounds of tan oak. The bottom vent is very controllable and when vented externally will allow this stove to cook all night. Eight hours. But it does take a little practice and experimentation. (Most things do.) But in only ten days we were able to get the stove to work just fine. In fact. We are very happy with it now. The female half of us simply loves it. 4) Vent the stove from outside air. It makes a huge difference. But don't get fooled by the manual which appears to indicate you do a double venting. You only need one vent. The manual appears to be trying to show the user two methods, but never mentions the obvious method we used, which was straight through the floor. Anyway. Get a 4 inch expanding aluminum clothes dryer vent and a 4" hose clamp to attach the tube to the lower vent and port it somewhere, anywhere outside your structure. No interior air, unless the door is cracked or open, needs to enter the home. You get just the heat. 5) The blower is the typical squirrel cage blower and makes noise. If you have a noisy house, it won't bother you. If, like us, you live in a dead quite home, you will rarely, if ever, use it. Too irritating. Put one of those powerless Russian heat fans on the stove and call it good. The BTU's are in your home, with or without the fan. Even a small desk fan nearby will create the air movement you need to help distribute heat. 6) You may need a file or a metal grinder to get the spring handle on the bottom vent shaft. The door handle grip went on easily enough. Not so with the vent handle. A minor issue, unless you don't have a file or a metal grinder. So we give the stove five stars. It is what it is. It does what it says it does. We give Home Depot Online and our HD store in Ukiah, CA five stars. But we give GHP Group zero stars... because how can you give even one star to something that doesn't exist? Maybe we should average it out, but we stuck with five stars as we didn't feel it fair to punish the good stove for the sins of its' bad distributor. January 30, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great little fireplace love my fireplace. It is great to get up in the morning and build a fire and enjoy all day long. I have a need to replace the glass and would like to know how and where I may do this. November 16, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Grate Little Stove Great little stove for the price. We use it as our primary heat source from fall to spring. I added a small wood rack to help make an even burn. Even if we where to use LP this stove would still save money and its better for the environment given that burning wood is carbon neutral. The only thing it needs is an ash pan and a way to use my "SootEater" without to much work. October 31, 2014
