I purchased this stove in July, 2015, and had to wait until December to begin use and write a review. I have owned several stoves in Illinois and Michigan over the past 20 years. Since relocating to Texas, I thought the benefits of a stove would be minimal. This "winter" is proving the error if my assumptions. The house is a remolded farm house with 2,800 sq. ft. Everything is on one level, but broken up into many rooms and corners. The stove is located at one end of the house in a 30' x 25' room. The stove heats that room to about 85 degrees in less than 30 minutes. The heat moves through the living room and dining room and heats 2/3 of the house to about 75 degrees in about 2 hours. This temperature is maintained throughout the day with outside temps in the 35 degree range. The firebox is sufficient to allow for a good burn for about 3 hours before adding additional wood. You can bank the fire at night, fill the box and have it burn all night, (about 6:00 AM). Just add more wood and the heat continues.
The directions were easy to follow and the instillation went smoothly with 2 people. Since this is a Texas house, there was no existing fireplace. I went up 10 feet from the roof, about 2 feet above the peak. This created an excellent draw in the firebox and makes starting the fire very easy.
I look forward to seeing a reduction in the heating bill, since I cut the wood myself. I am retiring at the end of 2016 and will be spending more time at home. The wood stove allows me to keep warm, during the hours, I use to be at the office, without paying additional heating expenses. This unit is an excellent value for the moderate climate. This is not a super heavy cast iron unit, (like those necessary in Michigan), but a well built steel unit that can provide heat for 6 -8 hours with minimal attention.

I purchased this stove in Sept. from the H.D. website; and was not happy to find out that the freight service that H.D. contracts out to was planning to drop this 324-lb. $900 purchase off at my curb. The distance from my house to my curb is over 100 yards; I'm a middle-aged woman and don't own a pick-up truck. So I had to have the freight company deliver it to my local H.D. store, instead of my home. The H.D. said that they'd deliver it up my driveway closer to my house - for an extra $60 dollars! So I had to pay an extra $60 to have the stove dropped off by the house instead of the curb. Now I was faced with the dilemma of how to get it into the house. My woodstove sat outside for several days; finally I ended up hiring a moving company to bring it into my house. This cost me another $200. Then I had to hire a chimney guy to bring out the chimney pipe and connect my stove to the chimney...another $65. I am really happy with my stove, which heats up a nice, large area in my home, and the stars are for the stove itself, but am extremely upset that H.D. didn't have a better delivery and installation plan for a wood stove purchased from their website, and didn't make this clear at the time of purchase either.

Really love this wood stove, we've been using it daily for a few weeks now and it does a great job of heating up our 2300 sq' house. As another review noted the blower does not move that much heat away from the stove, but it does work well enough. The glass front is huge so you can see the whole fire, really looks beautiful!

Well built stove, large firebox holds a lot of wood for a long burn. Blower does a good job of moving the heat around.

Pretty good stove. The fan actually works with little noise. The stove doesn't like soft or inferior wood as it requires a hot bed of hard coals. I have free wood on my farm and tend to burn anything and everything. My Ashley wasn't at all particular about the wood I burned but this one is. I suspect it has something to do with the air flow.
You do need to have the door open a little to start up and then just barely let the door latch catch instead of pushing it down hard till it gets burning real good.
Starting these things burning puts a lot of people off. Buy a box of cheap fire logs and chop off a two or three inch piece for kindling. I drilled a hole in the side and stuck in a piece of pipe and start mine with propane (been doing this for more than 15 years with Ashley's, Franklin's etc)
The built in damper works pretty good but not good enough. A second damper allows you total control (they're only $8).
All wood stoves are a compromise and a challenge for overnight heat. For this one I overheat a little before bedtime building up a good bed of coals then load it up solid with good wood, choke the dampers (experiment, experiment, experiment) and it will last 6+ hours.On real cold nights burn a little hotter and plan on getting up at least once to re-fuel. If I have a little greenish wood in my pile I throw some in at night. It slows the fire down and makes good coals.
The ash system is useless. Get a $25 fireplace set and a metal bucket and shovel under and around to get ashes out while its burning. The little plug seems useless to me since you have to have a cool stove to use it Use your fireplace set poker to poke the wood to keep it settled down on the coals.
I keep an empty cat food can on my stove and pour scented oils in it.
I also removed the leveling legs and replaced them with wheels so I can swivel the stove around to face where we're gathered.

My old stove was not EPA-compliant, and there was a County incentive for having it hauled away and destroyed. This EPA-certified model was available for a good price, and had decent user ratings. My old stove had a cast iron perforated plate in the center of the bottom that made for a strong draft through the ash bed. Under that plate was the ash drawer. This new stove has no way to provide draft from the bottom. I was surprised to see that the chamber filled with white smoke when I started up the kindling. The directions call for leaving the door cracked until the chamber heats up enough to create a draft. I found that this requires much longer to get a fire going. In other words, you have to remain at the stove for a much longer time than for stoves that draft from the bottom. Once the chamber gets hot enough the draft is OK. With my old stove, when I opened the draft control to maximum and cracked the ash drawer open, the very strong draft was enough to reduce all coals to fine ash. With this EPA-certified stove, there are big chunks of charcoal remaining when the fire finally burns out.
I like the blower, as I think that it increases the efficiency by distributing the warm air.
I plan to learn if EPA requires that stoves not have a bottom source of draft.

Have not used it yet. Before placing order I called HomeDepot to get the thickness of steel side wall plate. They put me on hold and called the manufacturer. I was told it was 1/4" (.250) but it is more like 3/16. That had been a deciding point for my choice. It may not be as durable as I originally thought.
