Please read your product specifications before you buy and ask a lot before you spend your money. This is not a HEATER. NO HEAT. it is only fake flames that look so real. but there is on thing about this look: your brain makes you think that the room is actually warmer when it's on!! no joke.

Answer:
Well. . .not sure. But basically a rotating silver bristle brush (like a fake silver Christmas tree limb) rubs against a stiff plastic card with a rippled surface to create the crackling noise. You can adjust how loud you want it to be by bending the plastic card closer to or further away from the bristles. It really is a neat thing and looks so cozy.

Yes. It does crackle. It has a repeating kind of crackling sound. But still nice. I am very happy with the logs. Really better than I expected, and when you see how it is made, it's really just a clever idea. I added additional wood and have a firescreen in front of it. It looks great and I am here to buy another. Ruth

Is this a double-sided fireplace insert?

This question is from 20 in. Electric Crackling Fireplace Logs

I have a double-sided fireplace that opens to both my living and family rooms. Does this insert look equally good on both sides?

Where can I view a video of this fireplace insert that is either used in a double-sided fireplace or one out in the open taken with a with a 360 degree panoramic view? I would like to decide for myself if it might work for me. Finally if the manufacturer has not considered a double-faced insert would you please let it know that there could be (or likely is) a demand for one.

Answer:
I don't know about a video, but I don't think it would look good in a double sided fireplace. I have it angled up and there is a definitely "back" that shows the mechanical guts. The shape is like a fourth of a cylinder, so it would be awkward to position for a double sided fireplace. Maybe two of them, back to back?

The answer to your question is absolutely NOT. I love this insert but the back is tensil and a light with a motor. I had mirror behind it and had to frost the glass so it could not be seen. Also a video or two can be viewed via YouTube.

Answer:
Yolivam,
The fireplace logs do not come with a grate, as some customers install them in settings that won't hold a grate, or purchase them to replace existing logs. If you require a grate, there are options available on the Home Depot site or on the GHP website:http://www.ghpgroupinc.com/product-catalog.aspx/HEARTH/fireplace-accessories

The logs are actually wood. The orange glow simulates an actively burning fire achieved by a rotating metallic cylinder with a crinkled surface and an orange bulb that reflects on it to give the "fire" movement. The intermittent crackle sounds realistic, too. The cord is just over 5 feet long and features an on/off switch. The distance to my nearest outlet requires that I use an extension cord. I wanted the warm look of a fire and this product meets my need.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is perfect My fireplace or firebox has never been used. My house was built in 1999. So when I saw that they are now making electric logs with crackling noise I had to have one. It is perfect it looks & sounds real & my fireplace is still as prestine as the day it was built. Thanks

My husband was pleasantly surprised with the effect. It resembles more of a smoldering fire. Uses minimal electricity - another plus.

As a retired person I spend more time home and look forward to turning it on the minute I wake up and don't turn it off till I hop into bed. The crackling sound it emits is also welcome as I live pretty quietly except for some holiday music to accompany the dancing flames that reflect off the fireplace cavity walls. I use my fireplace screen which makes it look more authentic. Thanks Home Depot for carrying one of my favorite things. Merry Christmas to all.

Pulled it out of the box and plugged it in - voila! Instant ambiance! Real wood logs - didn't expect that. And the glow mechanism with the crackle are perfect in the fireplace where we won't be using with the real stuff. This topped off the look I wanted for the holidays in the living room; it was warm and inviting with this simple addition to the decor.

I put it on a grate we already had and put lava rock and crushed red glass under it. I added some logs on the sides to hide the boards that support the logs in the front. It can make some crackle sound but we adjusted the plastic card away from the rotating tinsel to preserve it. We turn it on and enjoy it every day!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pleasant Hearth Electric Crackling Fireplace Logs A little too big for our fireplace. Spooky looking when it's not turned on. Hard to reach for the switch because it is in the back. You have to leave the switch on and then plug it and to turn it off have to unplug it. Price is also a bit high for the type of material used.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Safe for kiddos We have a full fuction chimney. However keeping my 2 toodlers away from the flames is full time job. So we decided to look for a decorative piece and we decided to buy the electric fire place, a nice feature to hear is the crakling sound. We have fooled a few people. Lol
