I knew that the wood wouldn't have to be perfectly matched because of height and location. I do wish that I had set aside the time to really pick through the pieces. The joints are a little sloppy so install techniques took a little fussing and tweaking. In this case because I was installing overhead, I testing my pieces in a run before tacking up. Be prepared to sand and put your gloves in your pocket before your trip to your favorite HD!

After my roof rotted I needed to replace the interior ceiling in the living room. The room previously had 3in of exposed beams with acoustic tile inbetween. After the roof re-do most of the space was filled with spray foam so we cut this product into 2ft strips and nailed it to the beams.
Though it's not recommended I covered it with two coats of polycrylic rather than paint. I have yet to cover the joints with trim but it's on the list. Have to say, it looks ok...(more
However, it does require a non-trivial amount of sanding so be sure to invest in or borrow a good orbital sander. Also, when moving wear gloves it splinters like nothing I've ever seen. Also, make sure you pick out your own boards because many are damaged.

This is better as a concept. I used it for a shed ceiling and its an economical alterative to tongue and groove. It was surprised at its flexibility; i torqued it pretty intensely getting it into my car and dropped a bunch of junk on it and it didnt crack or split. Aesthetically, it is just good enough. There is no way it could take a stain, as any gap or inconsistency is filed in with glue (or putty). That said it is just good enough for non-critical spots.

If you pick through a stack of this beadboard ply, you can find some decent pieces without cracks or blemishes. It has been ideal for my basement walls, with just a quick coat of waterproofing. The only problem I had was that the laps didn't fit exactly, with the under side being longer than the exposed side, leaving a small but very noticeable extra space between sheets.
