the product width and depth are confusing? If depth is 55" , is that the assembled front to back measurement? And if so, then what is the 42" measurement? can you relate the measurements to the picture some how? thank you.
Asked by: skeeter
I'm guessing the 42" is across because the 55" is definitely the length. All I know is, I'm glad I spent the extra dollars on it, and it fits perfectly!

Customer Reviews

Side Rack Kit for 1500 Trailer Series is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Trailer Side Rack Nicely built, good and sturdy. This product is bolted to the top of the tandem trailer's molded, rounded edge. There are no predrilled holes on the trailer, and there are no metal reinforcement rods/plates to keep the bolts from pulling out of the thick plastic. We see that this could be a potential problem and flaw in the design of the two products(trailer and rack) to work together. We have not installed ours as of this review posting.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Misunderstood! This product is easily up to high standards for what it does, especially in adding the 60% additional cargo space. My own sad response is that it is NOT a removable one as had understood and it requires extra holes drilled in trailer body to stand firmly. I will be sorry to return it, but our work requires quick conversion. RW

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Polar side rails Would be 5 stars on all points for it's a fine product, worthy of partnering with the excellent trailer. My only disappointment was that it was not readily removable as I imagined. My bad. It is a permanent attachment not fit for my purpose.

Would definitely recommend getting these with the trailer; greatly increases utility and use vs. without them.

You have to drill the holes, but that was easy enough. The mounting bolts do not come with the rack, but they are certainly easy to get from your local hardware store. The construction of the rack itself is better than I expected. The steel is heavy enough that it will hold up to any work I have intended for the trailer. It really adds to the capacity of the trailer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great capacity addition, easy install I ordered the 8272 rail kit at the same time I ordered my HD1500TA trailer, because I knew I wanted the extra volume for light loads. So far, it seems to do exactly what I wanted. I modified the installation a little from the instructions both to make it easier and to make the side rails line up better with the sides of the cart. I also installed the rails while the trailer was hooked up to my ATV; this leveled the trailer and kept it from rolling around. NOTE: per the instructions, you can install the rails "mesh in" or "mesh out", depending on personal preference. I opted for "mesh in" - I liked the looks better and it also made my modified installation possible. My modified assembly/installation process was: 1. Tightly assemble the corner brackets to the front rail. 2. Loosely assemble side rails to front rail / bracket assembly 3. Remove the pair of existing screws, washers, nuts from top sides of trailer. 4. Place rail assembly on trailer and align so that the side rails are as far forward as possible and front rail is centered. 5. Use two C-clamps to hold front rail in place (this is where "mesh in" is important - it would have been difficult, if not impossible, to clamp things in place if I'd gone with "mesh out"). Check alignment of front rail after clamping to make sure it hasn't moved from step #5. 6. Tighten side rail to corner bracket fasteners. 7. Tightly install new center screws, nuts, washers holding side rails to top sides of trailer, in the existing trailer holes. While tightening, I pushed the side rails "in" toward the center of the trailer. At this point, the rails did not line up well with the trailer. Specifically, the rails were straight while the trailer was "bowed out" slightly. The result was that the rear of each rail stuck out past the sides of the trailer. 8. Push rear edge of side rail toward center of trailer, so that the rail is centered on the top edge of the trailer. Since the center screws are tightly installed, this "straightened" the side of the trailer so that the rail is now aligned with the top edge of the trailer. Clamp in place, near the rear of the rail, a couple inches forward of the rear mounting hole / slot. Repeat for other side. 9. Using a long 3/8" drill (I used 18"), drill down through the rail's 4 mounting holes through the top edge of the trailer. 10. Tightly install remaining screws, nuts, washers using the four newly-drilled holes. 11. Remove clamps.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent accessory for the Polar 1500 trailer This helps increase the capacity of this trailer for volume (not weight, of course) which is immensely helpful for loads such as trash, garden cuttings, and other things that take up more volume and tend to be light weight. I'm clearing about an acre of manzanita and woody brush and this is great for picking up all the junk that's left over, like larger trunk pieces and old branches and junk wood. I think it makes the trailer look nicer too - though usefulness trumps appearance, but it makes the trailer look like something really cool. Assembly was a bit confusing and awkward - a large cushioned (cardboard or something else) surface will help as you fit the pieces together. A regular philips screwdriver is needed to bolt things together - I think a hex head bolt would have been better than the philps head. All in all, the assembly took longer than my trailer did. You'll need to put the 3 sides together first, then tack them to the trailer (if you're getting the trailer at the same time, don't tighten the two bolts at the top of the tub on the sides, this will be replaced by bolts in this kit). It gets hard for one person to manage this - I used a clamp at the head of the trailer to hold the front side in place while marking the 4 holes you need to drill for 4 of the 6 bolts. I slightly lowered the quality rating because the fit and finish of this accessory didn't match the trailer's. The front side had tubes on the top that were slightly over the vertical tubes and the bolts could not fully get into the nylon lock collar. It's still plenty tight and should it ever cause a problem, i can grind the excess down and repaint, though I'm pretty sure this will not happen. I would easily buy this again though, the extra capacity is awesome.
