Product Overview

Pond Shield is a non-toxic epoxy liner designed for the pond and water feature industry. Created to construction water features or ponds with a more designer, formal or natural look than rubber liners are able to offer with no more unsightly folds or creases. In addition, unlike rubber liners, Pond Shield is available in eight colors - Black, Clear, Competition Blue, Sky Blue, Forest Green, Tan, Gray and White. Pond Shield is used for waterproofing structured surfaces found in water features such as Koi ponds, pools, fountains, aquariums, salt water tanks, hydroponics, streams, waterfalls, reflecting pools, mini lakes, holding tanks, etc. Easily applied and easy to maintain, for most applications, a single coat application is all that is needed for proper coverage. In addition, your pond will be virtually maintenance free with a surface that algae can be easily wiped off of and is safe for fish and plants. Pond Shield offers both strength and flexibility in a coating, strength and flexibility that is tested from -78° F to 140° F. Pond Shield is an epoxy pond liner that has been specifically designed to bond to porous or abraded materials. With a tensile bond strength stronger than the internal strength of the concrete, your single coat of Pond Shield epoxy will stick to what you apply it to. Over time, hairline cracks can form in concrete, mortar or grout joints. Being flexible, Pond Shield resists mimic cracking and provides the best protection possible in a coating.

I have a concrete pool slide with a coating similar to this (it's an epoxy paint just not sure of the brand) and there are a few areas where the paint is flaking and chipping off, exposing the bare concrete. Can I simply touch up the chipped and flaking areas or do I need to strip all of the original paint off?

can exterior fiberglass decks be recoated with this product?

2 fiberglass decks exposed to sun and snow, and salt air, strong wind... now 11 years old, the orginal paint is wearing and needs recoating. Approx. 600 sq ft total.
Asked by: DenDen
2-part epoxy will generally bond well to a clean surface that is slightly roughened and has a similar expansion coefficient

can you add sand or grit to the epoxy so that it's not slippery

Asked by: njstretch
Yes, Sprinkle it ON TOP after you paint so that it sits on the surface. The paint is EXTREMELY thick so adding it to the paint will make it IMPOSSIBLE to paint on. Paint surface first, then throw sand on top BEFORE it dries. NEVER paint stairs with this stuff, its dries like GLASS.

Can this be used to waterproof submerged marble fountain tiles? Or would a marine clear coat be preferable, and if so, what brand is recommended?

Asked by: George

How do you clean this stuff off hands and how to slow down the drying time?

Asked by: Mk
I use gloves and disposable paint brushes when I use this because it is so thick and sticky. I never tried to thin it. It is an epoxy so you may interfere with the drying process. It may not cure if you mess with the recipe. They have to be EXACT or you have problems.

Can this be mixed with glow in the dark powder

Asked by: Need2know

Can it be used on Fiberglass pool steps?

Have used pool paint in the past. After a few years the steps become chalky and you get white on your clothes and body parts that sit or rub against the steps.
Asked by: lou
NO, when this dries, its like GLASS. It would be too slippery to put on stairs. Its made for vertical walls of concrete and pool bottoms or ponds. I actually use this stuff in bird baths and other concrete statues that stay out in the yard year round. It never chips off, discolors, or fades.

Pond Shield 1.5-qt. Tan Non Toxic Epoxy is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 98.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Works This stuff really does work. Easy to mix. You do need denatured alcohol in the mix too. Only mix what you will use in a 15-20 minute time frame. After 25-30 minutes this begins to get stiff and firm up. Used on a fountain. Put two coats on and waited 48 hours to fill with water. This does dry clear and with a glossy finish. Would buy again but my only negative is the price. This stuff does work but is a bit pricey.

I am using this to repaint an old Hot tub, this is the paint I was hoping to find the first time I repainted it. This paint will last a very long time, you have to plan carefully as you only have a limited work time before it sets up. Very good paint. I am going to love having my hot tub back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks amazing I as worried about mixing the epoxy solution but it blended great with no issues. The color was exactly as described. I chose to paint it on because we used it in a deep pond, luckily the smell wasn't too strong or noxious

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does exactly what it says it will do This product did exactly as it was supposed to do: it worked! We used it in a large koi pond that is a split level, shallow on one end, and a deeper pool on the other end, lined with a concrete bottom and sides. We have 10 large koi, and had a leak that we could not resolve with any other product. I don't have to describe the loads of work it takes to fix a leak in such a large pond. Emptying water into large containers to conserve water, transferring fish to other holding areas to keep them healthy, and then cleaning and prepping the affected area was a lot of work. But if you use this product exactly as described and recommended, you will get results that you only hoped you could have. We have had the pond as full as it should be, and not one drop of water is evident outside of it. The leaks have apparently all disappeared, and we now have the pond we had originally: completely a place pf peace and beauty, and no annoying and costly leaks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our pond looks wonderful We have a very small concrete pond that we use for our swimming turtles. Very porous and rough finish The previous owner of the house used paint to finish the pond and it looked terrible and we were afraid the peeling paint would harm our turtles. We visited Home Depot and were told about Pond Armor. Unfortunately this product is not stocked at the store so we had to order it online. My husband followed the directions and said it was pretty easy to apply and it dried very quickly. Our pond looks wonderful and our turtles are happy.
