Where do I get the proper pipe for these clamps? Does the pipe need to be threaded and if so what is the proper setting for the thread? I would prefer not to use steel pipes due to weight-- do you know where can I buy aluminum pipe so it is not as heavy to move around?

You will need to use 3/4 inch black gas line pipe with standard thread. You can get that pipe at Home Depot. I buy a 10 ft length and have them cut and thread it right at the store for no charge. I use varying lengths of pipe for each pair of clamps; for example I have two 3/4 in. clamps that are four feet long and two clamps that are five feet long. For a lighter weight clamp, I use 1/2 in. clamps with Read More

Answer:
I've been using these pipe clamps for years! They're 3/4" pipe thread,HD or maybe ACE hardware sells steel pipe lengths in 4'ft. lengths, threaded on both ends.I usually buy a steel coupling for one end and of course thread the other end into the clamp. If you go with aluminum, use never seize on both ends cause aluminum galls and Sch.40 pipe.Anything thinner would most likely bend.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 25 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by nice clamp! I've had a couple of sets of pipe clamps I've used for years, but recently did a larger commercial woodworking project that needed more of these and some longer pipes. They offer good clamping power and the ability to vary the span by using different lengths of pipe is a huge plus. Home Depot had these clamps and a couple of different lengths of pipe so I didn't have to go anywhere else to get what I needed. The pipes came with pre-threaded ends that worked great with the clamp accessories. My old set of these clamps are over thirty years old and still going strong. These seem to have the same good quality and I expect that they will last many years as well. March 24, 2015
