I’m an avid Backyard birder. The 1X6 Poplar board is the perfect width (5 1/2in.), thickness (.75 in.), length and finish for constructing my bird houses with a minimum of cuts and wasted material. I use the 1X10 (9.50 in.) Poplar board for the roof of my birdhouses which provides plenty of overhang to keep the rain out of the nests and therefore dry and healthy baby chicks and parents. The Poplar takes paint really well and I admit to getting more than a little “creative” with paint colors at times.
