Answer:
Any brand should work as long as they are 15 degrees and the write length (3/4" - 1 3/4"). However, mine jammed on the first coil like many other reviewers on here. I'd suggest getting a different nailer altogether. The rigid nailer has the best reviews, so I picked one up today. It worked all day without incident.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.2 out of 5 by 26 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Jamming issues... When it's working it's amazing. Great time saver and very easy to reload nails. Sets nails perfectly. When the roofing nailer jams thorough its totally worthless. And it does occasionally jam, and for no rhyme or reason it seems to jam. There are no instructions that come with the tool as to how to clear the nail jam in the nailer - so you wind up bringing it back to Home Depot and they give you a new one - which you take home and it works fine for a few days, and then that roofing nailer jams like the first one. So for just a small house roofing job it took me three roofing nailers to complete the job, and three trips back to Home Depot - which because of that I wouldn't recommend this roofing nailer. Note: I own several other Porter-Cable tools and they all work great, and have for many years - except the roofing nailer. September 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good till the last NAIL Everything works great. Makes the job quick. Up until the last nail. Last nail feeds in backwards. August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by really a time/effort saver had to buy a fitting for quick disconnect(extra trip) but worked well. had two jams that were a pain to clear. instructions in box weren't any help.was done in half the time of hammering shingles(probably better than that). July 26, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Trust me - do not buy! Jammed constantly and then broke after putting down approx 600 sq feet of shingles. Repair kit around $85 which I did not buy - just tossed the nailer. Rented a Hitachi - laid down 2000 sq feet with no jams or other problems. Immediately went out and bought a Hitachi for my next job. May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome nail gun. This is my second Porter Cable roofing nailer. My first one is 15 years old and still working fine. I wanted an additional one for a helper. These nailers are less expensive than the others, but I don't know how another brand could work better. Some are lighter, but this model is tougher than a boot. June 14, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Miss fired Had some problem with misfiring and jambing. The price was good but had problems with the gun. June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by reasoning behind jam's i have all porter cable air tool. I have an older P.C. coil nailer and called for a repair kit ( $75.- ) is a lot compared to bostiches I've fixed for other friend's which was cheaper ( $ 25.- ) . but as far as a roofng gun , people don't think to use " kerosene " to keep the outlet port where nails come out , clean. because " Tar " from the shingle's builds up on the ejecter . that " Tar " will eventually build up and jam that ejecter. as for nails jamming you are not using it correct. ask me about nails jamming. I do not have this problem because coil is set in right. REMEMBER : USE THE OIL AND USE KEROSENE TO KEEP EJECTER CLEAN. March 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't Buy This This nailer is worthless. I have 4 other porter-cable pieces of equipment and love them, this one is just going to jam on you and then you will return it just like all the other people who's review I did not read until after the fact. Mine jammed on the first coil of nails and I could not clear the jam. Tried for 30 minutes before I gave up and took it back to the store. I then went to exchange it for the exact same nailer and then stumbled upon all these reviews where others had the same experience. There is clearly a design flaw here. Unless of course you really want to stop your project, go inside and drink beer. If that is the case, this tool is for you. February 28, 2016
