The 7346SP includes a backing pad. The pad is not hook and loop, it is a PSA pad.

Our company used to use the PC 7346SP but switched to the 7424XP thinking it was better (we sand materials for countertops). It seems like our shop has been going through these sanders like water (7346XP). In addition to the previous ones (2016 models), I have purchased 14 in the past three months (2017 models), and half of the 2017 models have been returned to me from the shop. I turned one on since they just received this particular S/N 3 weeks ago to see what the problem was, and it was making a noise like something was loose inside. I have purchased several from Home Depot and Amazon so not sure which S/N were purchased where - ugg! I am now trying to find an alternative 6" sander/polisher because it is costing us too much money, don't have time to keep returning and replacing, and production downtime when I don't have more in stock (can't keep up).

So...I went with the safer less likely to burn through orbiting polisher. Pretty happy with the results and it didn't take too much work to bring back the finish on a 12 year old clear coat car finish. I suggest buying a hook and loop back plate with a few wool polishing pads, six or more cotton polishing bonnets and your favorite liquid polish and wax. Happy so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from powerful Well made. Easy to use paper attachment. A bit heavy... Which is good and bad. On flat surfaces where gravity is your friend it's great... Sanding off paint lines on a wall not so much. I've used 40 grit to 180 and in between, with Excellent results. Quick material removal. Finer grits give nice finish.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far, so good... I have used the old style Porter Cable 6" Random Orbital Sander for 18 years building a large log home, and a lot of log furniture for it. I have literally worn out 3 of them, and always felt that I had gotten a more than reasonable life out of them. The production I could get with these sanders was always far higher than ANY 5' random orbital, and I've used them all; I've always been surprised that a majority of Porter Cable customers purchase this sander in the 5' configuration rather than the 6", because the productivity is far less. The fact that these sanders were American - made meant something to me, and so when I wore out my last one and tried to buy a new one, I learned that they were no longer available, and this model had taken its place. These are similar, but slightly different, and the fact that they are made offshore concerned me as to whether they would be as well-made, reliable and durable. I don't know yet, and won't for a couple of years, but in terms of performance, this sander appears to be the equal of the old ones, and so far, so good. But I would be happier with Porter Cable and with this sander if it was still made in America, and I feel that by going offshore as they did, they have lost a major selling point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Polisher I bought this highly rated dual-action sander/polisher for polishing weathered paint on personal cars, trucks, and boats. With some experimenting with polishes, sealant or wax, and pads I have my cars and boat looking great with a minimum of effort. DIY detailing, done right.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than your average buffer This polisher has more orbital power and won't burn your auto paint job. Haven't used it as a sander... doubt I will. There are several YouTube how to videos that show how to use it if you're interested.
