Product Overview

Post Protector is a slide-on barrier system protecting in-ground posts from decay by eliminating soil-to-wood or concrete-to-wood contact. Decay occurs when the following conditions exist: Moisture saturation of wood fiber, Oxygen, Temperature 40 -100 degrees Fahrenheit. These conditions enable the soil dwelling micro-organisms, to colonize the post using the wood fiber as their food source. This consumption of the wood fiber is otherwise known as decay or rot. Post Protector allows for typical post-in-ground foundations without the decay causing micro-organisms ever having access to the post. The treatment in a pressure treated post is a pesticide used in an effort to make the wood fiber an undesirable food source for these micro-organisms. The treatment is effective initially but loses its effectiveness as the chemical migrates or leaches from the post over time. Post Protector eliminates this chemical migration and keeps the treatment with the post where it belongs. Common applications are decks, pergolas, fences, pole barns, or any post-in-the-ground project. Available in 4x4, 4x6 & 6x6 in 42 in. and 60 in. lengths.

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product I just built a 32x44 pole building and was not comfortable with treated wood being buried and in direct contact with ground. These gave me the peice of mind to bury and hopefully prevent rotting. Very easy to install and work with June 9, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Waste of plastic For the money, these aren't worth it. Water will easily seep its way into these protectors from above or below (as you put holes in the bottom), and WILL cause rot. I bought these before I found Perma columns, and returned them to Home Depot in order to have something that will actually last. Don't waste hundreds of dollars on this waste of plastic, they might slow rot down because direct soil contact can be avoided, but water still gets in. I would highly recommend Perma Column posts, or other systems that use concrete as a base, and keeps the wood where it belongs, above grade. March 24, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by As Advertised Just received my post protectors. I plan on constructing a post-frame building later this summer. I don't like the idea of putting wood in the ground and mounting the building on a concrete footing was too expensive/too much work. The post protector is a great idea. Install looks very straightforward. One of the protectors had a crack when it arrived. I called the manufacturer and they apologized and sent out a new one right away. Good customer service. Nice to work with a company right here is the USA. May 28, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by No reason not to purchase After tons of research I found this is the "Best product" to protect your poles. Also they are easy to install, light weight, great customer service if you have questions from the manufacturer, and made in the U.S.A. What more could you ask for? July 31, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product. Have used them for years. I’ve been building for better than twenty years and decay is commonly misunderstood. Many believe that moisture is the cause of decay when it is actually one of the conditions needed for decay to occur. Post decay occurs when the soil dwelling fungi use the wood fiber as their food source. That’s why the treatment in a pressure treated post is a pesticide not moisture protection. They basically poison the wood fiber so that the fungi won’t feed on it. The Post Protector is a barrier between the soil and the post. It’s another layer of protection working in conjunction with the treatment. It allows me to put the post in the ground with no soil contact. No soil contact means no decay. I’ve tried the $150, 150 lb. perma column once. Its purpose is the same as the Post Protector, to eliminate soil-to-post contact. At 150 lbs. and $150, it certainly is not easy to use or to pay for and definitely not DIY friendly. Having used Post Protector for years building pole barns and a couple of decks, I can say that it is the simple, affordable, effective way to protect in-ground posts, period July 9, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product for protection of your posts! The product is a simple yet great design. This product will ensure that the posts will last a lifetime plus some. This was a product that will give you piece of mind when investing in a project that involves wood going into the ground. January 28, 2014
