Product Overview

Post Protector is a slide-on barrier system protecting in-ground posts from decay by eliminating soil-to-wood or concrete-to-wood contact. Decay occurs when the following conditions exist: Moisture saturation of wood fiber, Oxygen, Temperature 40 -100 degrees Fahrenheit. These conditions enable the soil dwelling micro-organisms, to colonize the post using the wood fiber as their food source. This consumption of the wood fiber is otherwise known as decay or rot. Post Protector allows for typical post-in-ground foundations without the decay causing micro-organisms ever having access to the post. The treatment in a pressure treated post is a pesticide used in an effort to make the wood fiber an undesirable food source for these micro-organisms. The treatment is effective initially but loses its effectiveness as the chemical migrates or leaches from the post over time. Post Protector eliminates this chemical migration and keeps the treatment with the post where it belongs. Common applications are decks, pergolas, fences, pole barns, or any post-in-the-ground project. Available in 4x4, 4x6 & 6x6 in 42 in. and 60 in. lengths.

We make Post Protectors for some of the manufactured posts but they are not available on Home Depot.com. If you reach out to us from our website we can check for available sizes and how you can purchase them.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Same Gimick as the 4x4s My neighbor- Bless her heart had to have them after this being the 3rd fence we have replaced between us in 20 years. We had to use silicon to fill the gaps. They cracked where we used a rot board on the bottom of the fence- they are plastic. They are not made to keep a fence from rot they are made to be able to put another post in when it does rot. They fill with water...now why would I want to tear my fence part in another 7 years and replace it. I did my research and actually found a product that works which we bought and used on the other side. Seals the post completely to prevent rot,but I will not mention it here out of respect. Waste of money, very ugly and they are not all the same exact dimension. Can not nail into them without completely cracking them. We are going to remove the Sleeves and try and salvage our fence. My advise is do not waste your money, worse you will not be happy and stare at them for however many years they last wishing you would have just sloped the concrete away from the post. Im 66 years old and am that unhappy to take the time to write this review, I dont even like to write deposit slips at the bank. I like The Home Depot too, but those other reviews I just read, are from the people that make them! The only thing they would be good for is the guy who said he made a removable section, but it will wobble

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very good product The builders were very impressed with this product. It handled well -- several of the workers commented on how much they liked it. The contractor said he was going to ask his supplier to start carrying Prodex.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Option to Protect Posts Installed in the Ground I recently built a pole barn and was looking to add more rot and decay protection to the pressure treated posts that were set into the ground. Compared to other options, the Post Protectors are more cost effective and simple to install. Concrete pillars are expensive due to the labor required to install them. A solid buried post is also stronger than the weak joint of a post bolted to the top of the pillar. The various "wrapped" posts on the market are more expensive than the Post Protectors. The sleeves are simple to install. Just slide them on and install the lag bolts to provide uplift protection. If you're having a contractor do the work, just have them slip them on before they set the posts. Quick, simple, and economical.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product ive used this product on the last 3 projects on my farm(2 pole buildings and a lean too) and I love these. The first shed I put up doesn't have protectors on it (it was before I found p.p.) and I'm so bummed because I can see the beginning of rot on my poles. I wouldn't put another pole in the ground without post protectors.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Post Protector update After my post ripping this product I received a call from the owner of the company. The purpose of his call was to assure me that I did not waste my hard earned money. He explained the process he went thru in the design phase as well as testing. He told me that thru accelerated testing it was established that this product should last 400 years. As I told him, I may have been hasty in my review. I think that time will tell. I have to respect a man that is willing to listen to the good as well as the preceived bad.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wasted Money? My cost for 24 of these "post protectors was $735.15. The walls of the the protector are .03". Thats 1/32 of an inch. The material is stiff but not hard. The bottem is so thin that I could see sun light thru the un drilled plastic. I don't know how these will holdup but I am not impressed. I could puncture the bottem with a dull nail without much force at all. If I had been able to see this product before I purchased I would have never laid down my hard earned money. JMV Louisiana
