Purchased this saw in February used it in 2 times in June and July, not even used a gallon of gas and BAM the engine froze up solid.(and yes I did mix the gas and oil per manufacture) I took it back to H/D to find out that the return policy is 30 days, now for those of you that are just joining us, I purchased this in February, The manager must have seen the disappointment in my face and agreed to return it, in return I purchased the Echo 18" saw and commenced to cutting down some VERY large mesquite trees with no problem at all. Moral to the story, "if you want it bad, you'll get it bad" spend the extra money and buy a real saw.
Happy and still cutting wood, in Phoenix.

This is my second Poulan saw. After reading many reviews I was a bit concerned about the puchase. My first saw lasted 15 years of more than average use. So far in a month of ownership I have cut up two oak trees, two large pine trees and a lot of Bamboo. The saw starts easy and I've had no problem with the power. I had read numerous complaints about not finding chains for the saw. Before I left the store I ensured I had the correct chain, and actually had an associate help me. Now I have the correct chain info and have used it to purchase 2 more chains. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by PoorPurchase Do not purchase this saw
Purchased this saw because it looked like the best value for the money. With the first use, the saw stopped cutting and would not turn over, so I took it back to the store to return it. HD said they needed to have their tool shop look at it before they would return it; these guys were quick and had it running again the same day. When I asked what the problem was they told me that Poulan's are touchy about their fuel - all they did was add some liquid mechanic and suggested I do that each time I filled it up. That seemed to work the first season. However, the next season I only got about 3 hours out of it before it completely locked up. Just move on and purchase something that is a little better quality.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by jaybee Great replacement saw for homeowners
After a tornado went thru our neighborhood my old saw packed it in and I decided to purchase this saw to finish the cleanup. I am very happy with its performance. While it is a bit heavy it has all the features that I like, and that includes manual chain adjustment ,easy start, lots of power and a smooth running high reving engine. If you are in the business of woodcutting daily you would probably want some other heavier duty brand but for the regular homeowner living in a wooded area it is perfect for those needs.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ScooterD Great Value for the what you get
I was looking for my first chainsaw and was wanting to get husqva** but did not have any in store at my local home depot. I spooted the poulan pro 18" 42cc. I thought it was a great deal at only $169 and it has been since day one. So far I have cut though logs from 3" to 2.5 ft in diameter and this one does the job and comes back for more. I have cut through pine, oak, white oak , and locust. I have only had the saw for only about a month now but I have already gotten my money's worth out of it. Just make sure you keep the chain oiled and keep the proper mixture of gas and oil for you fuel. This one is 40:1 ratio . The one thing I would improve on though is to make the plastic cover that covers the sprocket metal instead of plastic.

I was concerned when spending so little money, I sometimes feel you get what you pay for. This was not true with the Poulan chainsaw, it worked great right out of the box, put some chain oil in and then fueled it up, and it started on the 3rd pull, and then I downed 2 tree's and the job was easy. I was really satisfied with my purchase, and it is hands down worth price.

I purchased two 18" 42 cc poulon pro chainsaws in the last week. After the first one, I thought maybe I just got a bad one, after getting the second one, I realized it's the product. Neither saw would cut easily through an 8" post oak log and kept bogging down. Neither would stay running on idle. I had to keep then throttled up to keep them running. I will be returning the second one also, getting a full refund, and purchasing another brand. I never thought that I would be happy to still have my little 16" 36 cc craftsman, but it will out cut these poulon pros all day.

First day out of the box it started, didn't run well until about a 10 minute warmup. Now, on the next day it won't start. I'll give it another try later today, and then it goes back.
