HOW LOMG DOES IT TAKE TO SHARPEN A CHAIN

I HAVE NEVER DONE IT BEFORE
Asked by: FOGGY
Depends on the type of bit you use. The normal stone bits, last maybe if lucky, about 1 18" chain, but if you use the diamond bits, can last 3-7 18" chains and it keeps its shape, as well. Which the diamond bits keeping its shape helps you keep making the same cuts. The diamond bits on an 18" chain, takes roughly about 5 minutes to sharpen all the teeth. Word of advice, make sure to have a sharpie around, when you do it, so you can mark your first tooth, so you know how long to go, without counting. LOL

Ok, I didn't give it a full 5 star, because the stones, that come with it, are the cheapest made, which is why I decided to just go a few bucks more and get the good diamond bits, instead. I was questioning the tool, before I did, though. But I gave it a second chance, with the good bits instead and I am glad, that I did! I set the speed of the grinder, to about 1/2 the speed, so it doesn't speed up the wear and tear of the bits. The diamond bits tend to last about 3 to 5 18" chains, with each bit. I did the full speed, with 1 of the bits and it lasted 1 to 1 1/2 chains and the 1/2 speed gives plenty of speed to keep the bit turning, while lightly pressing on the teeth of the chain.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for the $ Tool worked as expected. I have used a Granberg sharpener for years and this is very close to the same design. Had no issues with the stones as far as wear goes. I don't know what other folks are doing with them but they should not wear out after sharpening a couple of chains. (But in thier defense, I have used one of these for years.) I liked the variable speed adjustability of the motor. It can be used for many other uses just like a Dremel tool. So far, so good. No complaints.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Electric chain sharpener The power tool is similar to an old Weller Mini Shop grinder. The attachment wasn't bent the whoole way, leaving a 15 degree up angle. I bent it to 90 degrees before starting. You couldn't get lower quality stones if you tried.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from don't buy the instructions that come with this sharpener is terrible, i cant say much about how it works as i could not figure out how to put it together. there are also parts with it but it does not say or show what they are

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful The tool burns through the stones if you can get it to hold on at all. Once the stone wears down it dulls the blade even worse. DO NOT BUY!
