Customer Questions & Answers

Can the PowerBoss Wheel Kit be installed on this generator?

I note that HD sells a PowerBoss wheel kit; can it be installed on the 30628 Generator? Please let me know ASAP. Thank you!
Asked by: Troy
Hello, if you are referring to part number BSN-6287, then the answer is no. The frame on this model generator does not have the attachment points for the wheels. I have not yet found a wheel kit that is made for this model.

1,700-Watt Gasoline Powered Portable Generator with Briggs & Stratton Engine is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from let there be light this generator is a good basic generator has two outlets a 2 gallon gas tank and runs for 8 hours at half the watts of output it has a 1700 watt output so if you only draw 850 watts to power something it will run for 8 hours on a tank of gas there is no hour meter or wheels for transport I bought a wheel kit and installed only had to drill a few holes to make it work make sure you have the fuel shut off in the run position which is to the right and the choke to the right after it warms up

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what was needed After getting the unit in from HomeDepot and did all the checks and fills started the unit and let it run for its break in time. Started right up on first start and seemed a easier after the break in.After that I tried a few different power tools on it and seemed to work with no problems. I have not really put any kind of load on it for reasons that I don’t believe that I will max it out. I just got it mostly for camping trips and little things away from power.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! This is a great little generator. After adding the oil and gas it started on the second pull. I let it run for about an hour or so to break it in. It ran quieter than I expected it to. I then plugged a few hand tools in to it and it didn't sputter at all. It has four household outlets, a three gallon gas tank and will run up to 10 hours on half a load. Will definitely come in handy for power outages and some recreational usages. Highly recommend this generator.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for a few appliances or tools Since the layout of my house is not conducive for a portable generator to run the furnace or hot water heater I wanted a smaller generator to power the refrigerator, cell phones and laptops and the alarm system (which is rechargeable). I also wanted something I could power some tools on when working far from the house. This accomplish that perfectly. Its small enough for me to move on my own, but I do wish it had wheels as carrying over distance is not easy. The instructions are clear, and the "quick start" guide is perfect as a reminder as hopefully I won't need to use it more than a couple times per year. Granted it is brand new, but it started right up, no problem. And because it is Briggs & Stratton I am confident it will last a long, long time. I have a Briggs & Stratton lawn mower than still starts on the first pull after many years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Portable Generator PowerBoss generator is small and compact. It has 2 sockets for electric out put. As with all small engine shipments, you have to add oil. The oil, sparkplug wrench, and instructions were in the box. The unit is attached to a sturdy frame with the use of rubber mounts. I know good welds when I see them. This reduces the vibration or movement of the unit when in use. After reading and following the instructions and guideline, I added the oil and gasoline. The engine started on the first pull. A day later, I rechecked everything and was able to operate a bench grinder without any problems. The instructions states that on ½ load, you can get up to 8 hours of service on a tank of gas (2 gallons) The unit also has a reference chart that shows the current usage for different appliances. This will aid you with preplanning. You will know what 2 appliances to hook up before power failure. I’m pleased with the unit. Because the humidity in this area is so high all year, I used the shipping box and plastic as a cover.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Portable Power in a box This is a very nice unit which should provide years of service. If you can take care of a lawn mower, then this generator should not be a problem to use. There are a couple possible issues, and I am not the only one to them. First the oil bottle that came with the generator was punctured in shipping and required several wipe downs of the generator to clean it up. There is a screw next to the on/off switch where the bottle is tie wrapped and it is too long and punctured the oil bottle. The second is the ground wire on the on/off switch came loose during shipping and there was no included wiring diagram to show where it should go. Through trial and error, I found it had to be connected 'above' the other wire on the switch. Also, the web site is mostly not working as I write this, but I assume it will be fixed eventually. The generator has a nice design, and except for the location of the spark plug, is very easy to service. To add oil, I had to tip the unit on it's back, which is a pain as you have to tip it back to measure if it is full. I am very happy with the unit. Mine starts on the second pull, every time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from exactly what i was looking for. Easy to start and reasonably quiet. At 60 pounds its easy to move around. Put a 1500 watt surge on it and it picked it up right away. Very happy with the purchase. Being a Briggs and Stratton unit made the difference in my purchasing the gen set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good small generater The 60 Lbs is a little heavy for me but not too much ( I'm over 70)-I still can carry it 20-25 ft OK .If I have to take it farther I use my hand truck or the wheel barrow. Easiest starting small engine I have ever had! some have said it is a little noisy. I find it to be very quiet. I use it for power saws and chain saws. No problem at all. Only one thing I can say in the negative--The little thing they have for a gas gauge ---well it's a joke! but if anybody can't figure out how much gas they have in it, they don't need to try to use tools in the first place! It does what I got it for -- That's all I ask of it anyway.
