Questions & Answers

Why is this no longer available?

I agree with dkocian. Why was this discontinued? Seems like a great product, and it's still carried by your biggest competitor. Why not at HD?

You can order it online, it is hard to find in stores. I have only found 14-16 in systems in stores and rarely in Home Depot. I just order it online and Home Depot has been the cheapest so far at 40 dollars. with replacement parts at 30.

The PowerSharp chain and bar combo is NOT compatible fit a Husqvarna. 440. The Husqvarna 440 is a .325 pitch whereas PowerSharp is 3/8 pitch. The correct combo is Oregon part # 584408.

I have a Stihl MS250C that gets very good use. I bought this bar/chain in the hopes that keeping a chain sharp would be in my future. However, the chain comes off more than it stays on. The reason is that the bored holes on the bar do NOT match up with the automatic chain tensioner nipples. The only way I will be able to get this to work is to drill out the holes on the bar to make them match to the nipple location which will allow the chain to be properly tightened AND stay there. I spent 1/2 hour trying to saw with the first use and an additional hour trying to figure out how to make this bar/chain work with my saw. Very disappointing and aggravating. I should have just bought a new Oilomatic chain which would have cost less and the project would be over now.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Almost! Chain and bar system worked well right out the box but after a few hours of use the chain popped!!!! On the first day might I add!!! I loved the cut of the chain but it had no durability. I was cutting water oak wood I they can make this chain stronger it would be worth the buy but until then I will keep searching for a better option!

I've always wanted to try this because I HATE sharpening saws. I ordered online and then went saw shopping. I found a small Jonsered 2238cs at a pawn shop. That ended up being the biggest issue since it liked to die on me occasionally. I cut 7 cords of slabs with it for the winter and multiple trees down this spring. Although, I preferred to use my stihl for actual cutting down the larger trees because the powersharp chain is wider and tended to get stuck in the tree. I used the powersharp and jonsered to delimb and cut the tree up, that worked great other than the saw. I just wish it could be used on larger saws since 2 ish hp for the recommended saws really slow it down. I just ordered a second chain. I ordered the (541662) 18 bar starter kit at first and now a new chain and stone. make sure you get the starter kit with bar and chair or well it wont work. I use the 18 bar on the small saw because I'm mostly cutting slabs from a wood mill. I would recommend a smaller one if you plan on felling any trees with it. Just count to 5 once you push hard enough to see sparks while sharpening. no need to go overboard and grind the chain off after 3 sharpenings. If its a little dull sharpen it a few more seconds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth the money. I've used this product on an Echo 400cs chainsaw and it works great. Have cut rounds out of 12 logs (12" to 20" dia.), all hardwood (black locust, ash, white oak, hickory and red oak) and have only had to sharpen the chain once. The installation was easy. The only precaution is that the chain has far more kick-back than regular chains. This difference is greatest on up cuts. The teeth are aligned differently to allow for the sharpening. Worth every penny!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good! I've been told this doesn't stay sharp as long as traditional chains, but this seems to work fine and when I was using the chain on blow down after some tornadoes, it was INCREDIBLY helpful not to have to remove the chain and spend a half hour or more on sharpening.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from get tool Great you can get the job done faster . Takes only a minit to sharping the chain. I have used this on hard and soft wood and I love it. Would have too buy three or more chains buy now. The only bad thing is the bar is 1/4 " longer and when you need a new chain u must buy powersharp chain. But it will save you 100s

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Chainsaw Chain I bought this after going through the original chain on my Echo 370CS and two other Oregon brand chains. Although I haven't had a chance to sharpen it yet -- which was the main reason I bought it -- the chain cuts unlike the previous three and it has lasted longer too. It went through a pine that had fallen in a storm like a hot knife through butter.
