Product Overview

The Powersmith PAVC101 Ash Vacuum is specifically designed to clean warm and cool ash out of fireplaces, wood stoves, pellet stoves and barbecue grills, something that household vacuum cleaners and regular utility vacs cannot do. The secret is the two-layer filter. The outer layer is heat resistant, allowing the machine to pick up warm ash up to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. The inner layer is designed to trap the finest dust and ash. The metal hose and canister on the Powersmith ash vacuum make the whole machine heat-resistant. And just in case, the motor has an auto-shutoff feature which turns off the machine if heat inside the canister ever reaches dangerous levels. A powerful 10-Amp motor is another reason why this ash vacuum doesn’t clog like the competition. But it runs at a quiet noise level of only 79 decibels. The 5.2 gallon canister holds up to 3 gallons of ashes. An ash level indicator shows how full the canister is at any time. The Powersmith ash vacuum comes equipped with extension wands and a floor and carpet nozzle so it can be used as a regular utility vac. Casters and a 16 ft. extension cord give you lots of mobility. And if you switch the hose from the intake PORT to the exhaust outlet, this vacuum turns into a blower.Three tools in one: an ash vacuum, a utility vac, and a blower.

Answer:
No, this is a dry vac only. Liquid vacs have a float ball that prevents water being sucked into the motor. It might work with liquid for a few times, but it will eventually quit. For liquids, buy a regular shop vac that's designed for liquid pickup. This vac is also too small to use for a massive basement flood.

Answer:
I would recommend against it. Unlike a normal shop vac, this uses a heavy filter blanket to capture the ash, which would become soaking wet if you tried to pick up liquid. Also, the filter blanket greatly reduces the suction compared to a normal shop vac, so the unit wouldn't pick up much liquid in any case.

We use a wood-burning fireplace to keep warm, so we have to remove the ash build up pretty frequently; can we suck up hot coals/embers with this thing? Thanks

Answer:
You should cool the wood stove for at least 5-6 hours before vacuuming it out. The vacuum is designed to take cold ash, but also to take the few residual hot embers that lie in the ashes. It will shut off when you take in too many hot ashes.

They claim if there is nothing flammable (only ashes from the stove) in the tank, you are probably OK. But I won't take the chance.

Answer:
Yes. The vacuum has a metal bin so it will suck up hot embers. However, try to let the stove sit for a half hour (or so) before doing to to prevent any safety hazards - the vacuum bin does get hot when sucking up hot embers.

Answer:
Yes, I would use it for that purpose. However, remember that this vac is smaller than a regular shop vac, so you're going to have to empty it more often.

Answer:
Yes, it is basically a shop vac that can also clean up ashes and not get clogged. It shouldn't be used on water which is what most shop vacs can do but for all around vacuuming it is great for the car and garage and also fireplace and wood burning stove.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ash Vacuum The vacuum does exactly what it was designed for and does not clog up with ash. It is great for cleaning around the door to the stove. I use a shovel and pail to remove most of the ash but this works great for the residue and keeps the ash from getting all over the house. April 26, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Be careful! This product may get clogged quickly. I purchased this in mind with cleaning out the wood ashes in our fireplace. However every time I inserted the hose into the fireplace it got clogged with smaller pieces of wood that didn't burn all the way down to ash. As a result I spent more time clearing the clogged hose than sucking out the ash. I returned it. This is probably best used for pellet stoves, or a different type of wood that burns all the way down to ash. And the supplier might want to think about increasing the hose diameter. It looked to be less than 1.5 inches but I didn't verify that. A 3" diameter hose would be much greater; if that's possible. February 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Purchase / Great Deal! The item works well, def affordable, has all the attachments you would ever need and def worth the money! May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Replacing ShopVac with this Ash Vac So far so good. My 7-8 year old Englands Stove Works just blew an auger motor or is simply jamming in the auger shaft. With the lower price of oil these days I use it as backup. Pellet prices going down because of this. Market must be glutted. Great suction and is compact and seems sturdy. A friend in in NYS near Saranac Lake recommended it after I ordered it. He likes it too. I'm in NW Ct. A little light on accessories. Home Depot doesn't stock it so it may take some time to get it. Reminder: Though it says you can vacuum warm ash(like fire places) why find out there were live coals by smelling your filter burning. This Vac beats using a Shop Vac with a Concrete dust filter. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ash vacume Works very well with my pellet stove no dust when I used it last April 12, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job Works well and easy to clean out the ash from the canister. It's small and light. It's not able to suction 2" pieces of charred wood so don't expect it to work like a full size shop vac. April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This Ash Vac Really Sucks (Really Well) This vac is ready to go right out of the box; all you have to do is put the swivel wheels on (just push on). The 10-amp motor has nice power, giving strong suction, so you get less ambient dust and ash in the cleaning process. Functional and light weight, it comes with two attachments, one for the floor and a dual crevice-brush tool. Standard-sized attachments from my old canister vac fit this one too. The power switch is an easy toggle, better than the push-button on my shop vac. Fold-down handle balances the load nicely. Built-in sockets for hose extenders let you store all parts on the body itself. The product description online is accurate. You can use this for a shop vac, but I wouldn't use it for wet pickup. It's designed to pick up warm ash, but I don't plan to use it that way. I use it on a cold pellet stove, and I'll use it in the future on a small wood stove, which might have hot spots even after 48 hours cooling down. The only fault I can find is that it's a bit louder than a house vac. I recommend ear plugs. The price on this was a bit high; I think it should be in the $50-60 range. It only comes with two attachments. March 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by FANTASTIC SMALL SHOP VAC I have a pellet stove and love this vac. It this small enough that I can leave it out all the time by the stove to be ready to use. I like the fact that I can take it outside and use it as a blower also. But, the best part is I don't have to buy vacuum cleaner bags. I take the basket outside and wash it out. I love this vac!
