Without starting the inevitable s-storm that is interlock vs transfer switch, the powerstroke manual is unclear about which setting this unit is. If it's a neutral-ground bonded unit, does anyone know where the jumper is located for removal? (Yes, i know this might void a warrenty)

I'm answering my own question after looking at the electrical diagram. It seems they put a jumper between the neutral & ground on the 20 amp duplex receptacle furthest from the 30 amp plug. Pull the panel and remove the jumper and it'll turn it into a floating neutral generator to use in backfeed applications. Make sure you label the generator appropriately and make yourself a simple neutral ground plug Read More

Can the generator get wet? I'd need to put it either on my deck or porch. Please advise.

Hi Dollabill, when not in use just like any other gas equipment you can store it in a garage, however when in use it will need to be outside but needs to be covered as to not expose it to the elements. When doing so make sure the mufflers exhaust can breathe. Hope that helps!

10w30. You can find the small engine block oil SJ rates at a standard Auto parts store. I know plenty of folks that use regular synthetic 10w30 in these w/o issue

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 55 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Aoid At Any Cost I purchased this unit before the big snow storm in the Washington, DC area in late January 2016. The pull cord was broken out of the box and I had to use a screw driver to get it to retract. After pulling and then using a screw driver several times, it would not start. Called PowerStroke and their customer service line was close because of inclement weather. I can understand that. What I can't understand was that the unit was shipped broken. Finally spoke with someone at PowerStroke and they recommended I bring the unit to Home Depot for repair. I really have a problem with repairing a brand new unit that never worked in the first place. Avoid this generator and brand no matter the cost. January 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Loud This thing is very loud. It makes my dog very nervous. She keeps looking at me like I have a sandwich for her but I don't... Haha. Starts on the first pull and runs everything I need it to. Awesome deal! Highly recommended! February 23, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Difficult finding parts/shop willing to fix it When Hurricane Sandy hit I waited at Home Depot for 9 hours on Wednesday and 6 hours on Thursday before a truck load of these showed up. There were no choices. This was it and it was $900. $200 more than it is now (6000 W). It was fine during our power outage (11 days) but not long afterward the carb had issues and needed replacing. The first shop I took it to wanted nothing to do with it because it's so hard to find parts. The second shop has it now and thinks they can find a carb for $200. I have my fingers crossed! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by amazing life saver I'm extremely happy with my choice it's a little it's a little loud and kind of heavy but that's all good with me pretty much does my whole house I love it February 14, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So far so good I purchased this basically for emergency needs. It's very heavy in the box. Make sure to have at least two strong people to lift it. You have to assemble the wheels to it, which is easy but ackward because it's "heavy". It is easy for one person to move around with the folding handle. I followed the instructions with fuel and oil and it started on the first pull. It ran very well but it is loud. I have not hooked up any home devices to it yet, but I will test that soon. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by May be a fine machine I bought this machine during a power outage because my old generator would not start and this one was the last at the local store. All generators were flying out the door. It went together with minimal assembly and started not he first pull- so far so good. Then I found that I needed a 40 amp plug that neither my local general store nor any others in the local area had (this on Christmas eve) because they had all sold out. Anyway, the day after christmas I found the correct plug at a local (22 miles away) hardware and while I was hooking up the plug my dear wife came out and said "Honey, no hurry. The power came on." Why these machines don't come with the correct plugs is beyond my concept. Sure would have been easier on me. Did I mention I'm 73, an ex-contractor and fairly accomplished handyman. So- the only run out has been the trial start--except that it now has a gas leak somewhere in the system and I won't use it. It's going back to the store . To add insult to injury, HD has an internet sale on generators. A 10,000 watt, gas or propane, electric start with auto idler- features this generator did not have- for about a hundred bucks more. Sorry Power Mate- you don"t cut the mustard for me. I rated it as all poor, even though it did not really have a fair test in use. Other machines have many more features at a close price and I have had a poor experience which tested my patience. I won't say don't buy it as it may fit your needs but my experience was poor. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Generator, to have during an Ice storm This is a great generator, it was easy to set up and get ruuning I was able to get the unit set up and running in under ten minutes It stated on the first pull, It holds about 5 gallaons of gas I ran my freezer, refrige, tv, totaster, micwave, cell changer and cable box March 10, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great so far, top notch-U.S. based customer service. Very pleased so far. Been running about 24 hours. Service center located in our nearby Home Depot. Currently powering our well pump, oil furnace, and various household essentials. Awaiting a snow storm and 800 number rep instructed us to cover the unit w/weighted plywood to protect it from the elements, will be cutting a custom sized piece later today. Would buy again.
