Customer Questions & Answers

what is the range of this tool inch lbs? ft lbs?

Asked by: Andy
While the gauge reads from zero, the specification shows that the minimum torque measurable is 20 ft-lbs and the maximum is 140 ft-lbs. Converting, that would be 240 inch-lbs minimum to 1,680 inch-lbs maximum.

1/2 in. Drive Needle Torque Wrench is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well-built, simple, and comes with a nice molded case. I bought this for about $30 from Homedepot.com in May 2015. It's well-built, simple, and comes with a nice molded case. I also bought and tried Powerbuilt Model # 644044 and Model # 644999, and I chose this one. I prefer this beam style over the click style because this is easier to calibrate. You just bend the little arm to zero. Calibrating is as simple as that. In contrast, the click type has to be sent in to a service, or you can use a beam torque wrench to calibrate it! If don't care that your torque wrench might be 10 ft-lbs off or whatever, then you don't have to worry about calibrating. That's not how I do things. A downfall of this beam torque wrench is that it is more difficult to use than a click type. You don't just stick it on the bolt and pull. You have to arrange the wrench on the lug such that you can have a straight view of the torque measurement. It's really not a big deal for car wheel lugs. However, if you have a bolt that's in a tight location, it could be unduly difficult to manage. Personally, I bought this only for car wheel lugs. It works great for that. As long as I don't lose this wrench or break it (unlikely), I expect to be able to use this wrench for 50 more years or the rest of my life.
