Answer:
The unit I have has three breakers, one for 12 volt DC and two for each leg of 120 volt AC. The two 120 volt legs are also exposed on a 240 volt connector (using the same breakers).
The nameplate shows 8.5 amp at 12 volt dc and 120/240 at 25/12.5 limited to 3Kw.
There is no clear label on the breakers. The 120 volt receptacles are NEMA 5-20R (120 volt at 20 amp) and the 240 volt receptacle is NEMA Read More

The nameplate shows 8.5 amp at 12 volt dc and 120/240 at 25/12.5 limited to 3Kw.
There is no clear label on the breakers. The 120 volt receptacles are NEMA 5-20R (120 volt at 20 amp) and the 240 volt receptacle is NEMA L14-30 (two 120 legs at 30 amp), plus the cigarette lighter connector and a ground screw.
Experimentally, running resistive loads, a single 120 volt leg handles 30 amp, the breaker does not pop and the wires do not heat up over a few minutes. Pressing the load with another 1500 on the same leg does not trip the breaker within a minute. Running a total load of just over 4Kw the engine labors, but manages. Running 4.5 Kw the gas engine bogs down, but keeps running.
If you are going to use the unit for a heavy load definitely balance it on the two legs. The wires from the winding are relatively small, feel like 16 gauge. Read Less

The breakers are rated at 15 amp each.
Note: The winding are rated 3 Kw, so fully loading both for a long time will not be good.

I have 11 acres that I'm always adding new trails and fencing as well as making benches out of the cedar I cut down and would like to purchase a generator to use power tools not battery operated. Since I usually work out there alone I need a generator that I can lift by myself.

Answer:
It's about 100 lbs without fuel (4 gallons, so add another 6x4, or 24 lbs there). I'm 6'1",about 200 lbs, and average strength for a man, and I lift it no probem...the width of the support bars allow for pretty good leverage. Kind of bulky to walk with, but if you are just lifting into the back of a pickup bed or cart of some sort, an man of average health should have no problem.

You can but it's not recommended. Just run things that you wont be to upset about if they get fried. Or you can buy a conditioner.

Answer:
You might very well get away with it. However, inexpensive portable generators provide "dirty" power that can cause problems with or damage to sensitive electronics. I strongly recommend minimizing using it to power sensitive electronics without a good battery backup (Uninterruptable Power Supply). Plan to spend $100-200 for a good one (for example: APC BR1300G).

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 126 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Quieter than expected, nice smooth running. I had a decent idea of the size and sound level of this generator, but when i received it, it was actually a tad smaller than i thought, and definately quiter than i expected. After adding oil and gas,i set the choke and gave the rope a pull and it immediately sputtered to life,on the first pull!, cleared up in about 45 seconds and ran very nice and smooth. i ran it for 5 minutes and then applied a 1500 watt heater to it, it ran nice and crisp sounding,i measures voltage at 122 Volts and frequency at 59.6Hz. So far i am really pleased with this purchase. December 18, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bought this based on other reviewers and am very satisfied Started up in about 4 pulls. I think this may have been because how we put the oil in. But once it started it took about 3 minutes and it was purring perfectly. Didn't fill the gas gauge so I can't say whether or not it displays the correct amount, because I read some other people said that there gauge was showing different from what they had put in. Applied half a load with a 1500 watt heater and the generator didn't hardly budge. Very happy for the price. Seems like it's built well too. January 10, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Happy so far!! We had a monster of a generator, needed to go smaller so us gals could handle it...well this was a great purchase, two "girls" put it together easily. AND it fired right up, first pull, nice and quiet to...haven't had a snow storm to try it running the fridge and freezer but what we did try it ran without a hiccup. January 21, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Generator, Great Value Bought 2 of these for my kids homes. When I saw the price HD had on these it was a no Brainer. They didn't need anything too big because they are on Municipal water so 3000 watts was more than enough. At first I was leery because of the no brand name engine but that was quickly forgotten when I saw the construction, started on first pull, not a puff of smoke, idle steadiness & quietness! Just put a splash of fuel in because I didn't want to have fuel left in after testing but it ran for an hour with that splash with a light load. The pull start is very easy, not like them older generators that ripped your arm out. Tested voltages & a nice steady 118v on both legs even when turning loads on & off. Even though I have a bigger unit for my home since I have a deep well I should have bought one for myself since this will run a long time on little fuel. Comes with everything you need except Fuel & Oil. I guess they don't provide the Oil since you have to use the correct weight for your climate but 20 oz. of 10W30 will work in most climates in the USA. Comes with funnel & hose for easy oil installation & tools to remove the shipping brace from the engine to the frame. Has no wheels but it's not to heavy. I put one of them on a small cheap dolly for my daughter, worked great. Has rubber feet which absorb lots of the vibration & they don't vibrate or shake much at all. Also has an Automotive type 12volt accessory socket for car chargers for phones & such! This is great generator even at the normal price but the price HD had on it was a great deal. August 26, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Buy!! Easy to get it assembled. Very quite compare to other generators of its class. Great price for great machine. July 22, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Product Works great Purchased this item about a month 1/2 ago. The item arrived earlier then i was told and is working great outdoors in below freezing weather. January 27, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So far, so good. After 35 years of really limited power outages we were hit hard twice last year. We had a 4.5 day outage after the east coast derecho and a 22 hour outage after Sandy. We borrowed a 2,000 watt Honda generator during the first outage. That was enough to power our refrigerator, a light and a fan. When I saw this 3,000 watt generator as a Black Friday deal I figured how can I go wrong. It's not much of an investment even if I never have to use it. After it arrived I put in gas and oil. It started on the first pull. The noise level was low enough that when I went in the house and closed the door I could barely hear it. I checked the voltage and it was around 125v, which seemed a bit high. I called the information number in the manual and they told me that was right in the range that it should be to allow for some voltage drop when operating at full capacity. I plugged in a 60 watt bulb (.5 amp), a 2.5 amp fan and an 11 amp pancake air compressor. All worked well and did not seem to stress the generator. Time will tell whether this was worth the money for emergency backup. Based on my testing of the generator out of the box, I am satisfied with both the performance and quality. One last note. It is heavy and not very portable without wheels. I wound up purchasing a furniture dolly (click on thumbnail photo on right) from Home Depot. It fit on it perfectly and I can easily wheel it from garage to my driveway for use. January 24, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent generator This is an excellent little generator. Among the highest quality I've seen in any generator. Controls are well designed. Its small enough to place in the trunk of a car and one person can lug it around if needed (I suggest two people or use a wheeled dolly). This generator was able to run my 3/4hp well pump, which I did not expect. The L14-30 220V outlet is very common for generators and allows me to use my existing cord to attach to the transfer switch. For less than $300, this is an essential item to keep in the garage. Just make sure you start it up and run it (plug something in also) every month or two. February 28, 2015
