Bought this generator 6 years ago and have used it a few times during that period, I had not started it each month as the manual suggests for about 3 years. So when I tried to start it last spring it would not run. I took it to a local repair place and all he did was clean out the fuel line. It now starts first pull. We just came through a very bad ice storm here in Michigan and we had no commercial power available for 6 days. I ran this generator from 6 AM to about 10 PM for almost 7 days with no problem at all. I have a transfer switch (which I strongly recommend) so we could run freezer, refrigerator, furnace, and necessary lights while on the outside it was 9 degrees at night.

Bought this a couple of years ago during Ice storms in our area. It has worked great and is easy to use. The included wheel kit and handle, make it easy to take and transport to any area. Has required no maintenance and has had no problems from the day I took it out of the box. Has been used by myself and family members during power outages and for remote locations. The fact that it comes with the 25 ft multi-outlet cord makes it simple to run multiple tools and appliances at the same time. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a GREAT generator. I happen to get this on sale, so it was an even Greater value.

This product blew up with only five hours on the engine. A valve burnt and seized breaking the rocker arm and throwing the timing chain. This engine had been properly maintained. I owned it for over 3 years so it was out of warranty. It would have cost more to have it fixed then I would have gotten if I fixed and sold it. I lost $699.00. The only reason I gave it 1 star is because I could not give it a -5.

I have a owned and used this generator for 6 years now, I am a master electrician, and as stated (very well matter of fact) by the engineer before me, the engine is FANTASTIC!! I have not had the alternator fail on me (as of yet) but I am now keeping a close eye on it... I ran this (non stop) for 7 days in Dec 08', and (non stop) for 5 days in Nov 11', running the unit at 50% or more load constantly (3/4hp well pump, fridge, Boiler, etc.....) with hardly a hint of an issue. My last comment is to thank the engineer who reviewed before me for posting such a well thought out, and accurate breakdown of this unit!

Had a Husky generator from Home Depot using the Subaru engine. Would not start after 3 years and local repair shop is still waiting for parts. It has been two months. Made a big mistake with this SUBARU engine.../never again.

I've had this unit for at least 7 yrs and use it once or twice a yr during power outages. It starts on the first pull every time. I love the quiet, smooth Subaru engine. I too drain the gas and use Stabil. I didn't realize it should be started periodically but will from now on. I recommend spending the money for a transfer switch. I paid about $160 for the switch and another $700 to have an electrician install it.
5000 watts powers our refrigerator, boiler, well, tv and a few lights and makes the occasional power outages bearable.

I purchased this generator approx 2 yrs ago . I started it up and everything was fine. I took the gas out and stored the generator for an emergency. When the generator was finally put in service it ran 20 minutes and then the generator part of the unit failed

Got a sweet deal on this generator from Home Depot for only $419 which included free shipping.
Purchased this 5000-watt generator 2 years ago and have used it for both home power outages and for running power tools in my pole barn. It starts easily, is relatively quiet and provides steady, 'clean' electricity.
I keep all my equipment maintained and clean. YOU MUST RUN A GENERATOR MONTHLY FOR APPROX 15-30 MINUTES EVEN WHEN NOT IN USE. I believe this helps keeping this generator running well for me. Reliable Subaru engine, you can't go wrong.
