Yes to both question. This tool is very powerful it can actually cut bricks in half.
Keep in mind there are different types of air hammers. The Power Mate has 5000 blows per minute but shorter strokes. The Ingersoll Rand 114GQC air hammer has only 3000 BPM but the stroke of the blows is around 2 1/2 inches. I used both. I could not see a big difference. Answer:
yes, it will. That's exactly what i used it for. You'll just need to get a hang of the angle that you'd need to get the mortar off.

Regarding the Powermate Air Hammer with Chisels, without fully understanding the exact thickness (for example.. 1/2 in.?), we believe this tool should be able to remove the tile and thinset.

Answer:
Depends on how wide the rock is. If the rock is 3 feet wide it will take a good amount of time to cut through it. Around 8 inches wide, you should be able to remove it in less than half hour.

Answer:
This knob adjusts how much air gets into the air hammer. You can slow down the blows per minute by reducing how much air gets into the air hammer. I keep it on maximum pressure into the air hammer.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Buy! Great product for the price. I had to remove thinset from concrete in a small bathroom. The air chisel handled the job very well. It was slow going because the chisel is so narrow, but I knew how wide it was when purchased. Since this was a one time only project, it didn't make sense to buy a wider more expensive model. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Failed on third use Stopped working after second use. Just outside of warranty so nothing I can do. Shouldn't have gone with something so cheap. August 30, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Worked OK except air leak Air Hammer works great, the problem is that it had an air leak at the air adjustment valve. Could not stop the air leak no matter how you adjusted the valve. Called the company, they acknowledged they had a problem with the valve. They instructed me to bring it back to Home Depot. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great buy for the price I used this air hammer to remove tiles that was installed over concrete slab. It made a quick work of tile removal process. It's a light weight and grip is contoured well enough to be comfortable for about an hour of continuous work. That may be because of the gloves that I had on, but that's another review for another day. It is a light duty, so this won't break thick concrete... if you do, i don't see this hammer lasting too long. But what the heck... for this price (less than $14), go buy another one if it breaks! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Air hammer Exactly what i needed at a great price. I only needed this for small jobs. September 15, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Seemed well made but large air bleed When I hooked this up to the compressor a large amount of air bled out of the regulator shaft. While the hammer seemed to work okay, the large air bleed kept the compressor running constantly and the air bleed was very annoying when the trigger was not depressed. I imagine that the bleed also reduced the power of the hammer. I assume that there is something faulty with the gun and I will be returning it. I don't have time to wait to have another one to be shipped to me so I have already purchased the Husky air hammer from HD for slightly more money and am satisfied with it. April 7, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by so far so good I bought this gun because it was cheap and is rated at a low CFM. FOr years I have used the Campell Hausfield which is rated at 13 CFM for chipping the edge of stucco for patch jobs. Small compressors (1.5 HP) will not keep up. My compressor kept up pretty well (but not completely) so this gun does seem to use less air which is great. It seems a little less powerful though. I've only used it on one job so far and the stucco was not as hard as some. So like I say "so far so good" A few more jobs will give me a better idea. February 7, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic product for the money The drill is light weight and easy to handle. It was strong enough to complete the job that I had. It was a steal for the price. I would recommend it to anyone with small jobs. September 17, 2014
