Answer:
no Peen prevents any seeds from growing . plant all seeds first and let them sprout. then apply preen
as directed. preen will NOT harm any established plant, if it's growing it's safe. I personally have never known preen to harm a established/growing plant even if it's just a weed starting to sprout.

16 lb. Weed Preventer Plant Food Drum is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 102.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from outstanding product what a god send! preen when used as directed really works... no more pulling weeds. it's very easy to apply. many people think you can just apply preen over weed infested areas and it will rid all of the established weeds. not so...you MUST rid the area of all weeds or other foliage you do not want. then apply preen as directed & there will be very very few unwanted weeds. usually any weeds that may grow is because of missed areas when applying preen. many people also think preen will harm or kill establish plants.....not so. I know this to be true...whether it's flowers, vegetables, bushes, or trees.... because I've used preen for at least 4 or 5 years now. my bush and flower beds are virtually weed free.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Preen works. I have used Preen to kill weeds in my garden for several years now and it works. It must be applied periodically throughout the growing season, and there will still be an errant weed or two, but it greatly cuts down on having to constantly keep an eye on your garden and weed almost daily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easiest to Apply, BEST Product on the Market With over 30 yrs gardening experience, I can safely say that I've tried just about everything on the market for anything that pertains to gardening. I don't care about names brands, I care about whether it works or not, how easy it is to use and what its going to cost me in the long run. I love everything about this product, but especially how well it works. What most people do not understand about this product is that it does NOT kill weeds, it only prevents weed seeds from germinating. As a weed preventer, it does two things. As its watered into the soil, it enclose any weed seeds and suffocates them. It also creates and invisible barrier that prevents new weed seeds from germinating that blow into the area in the wind or are dropped by birds. On the second, it only works if you do not disturb the soil, so be sure to apply only after you're finished digging and planting in the area and preferably after mulching. Water it in well after applying. But of course, before you apply it at all, make sure you've already removed any existing weeds. I also love the container because when its empty, I wash it thoroughly with hot soapy, bleachy water and use it to store my bird seed in it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Weed Control made easy. Weeds in the flower beds are very difficult to control and requires hours of work to remove. Preem allows me to apply weed prevention once a year and maintain a weed free bed. weeds. The product is easy to use and apply in a few minutes. The product is safe for the flowers and plants.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Kept the weeds out of my garden Preen worked great in my garden. Followed the directions for application and watered it after, have not seen any weeds at all. Only complaint is that the included scoop for application is a bit flimsy and although the holes in the scoop for spreading are helpful, I found more spilling over the lip then falling through the holes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Preen Weed Preventer and Plant Food The Preen Weed Preventer and Plant Food really works at stopping weeds from emerging. It's been a month since I applied it and practically no weeds emerged. Also putting on the plant food at the same time as the weed preventer saved me so much time. I love this product and would recommend it. It's great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Can kill plants, even when used carefully Product killed established juniper,. but not junipers we had planted a month ago. Did not harm boxwoods or other shrubs. But six junipers were killed! Do not recommended this product because of this. Incidentally all crystals were shaken off foliage
