Can you apply a second coat once the first one is dry? Is there a benefit to doing a second coat?
Asked by: Pattyann
Preserva Wood is a ONE COAT ONLY wood stain. A second coat is NOT required. Over-applying the stain and not removing the excess can result in a tacky surface. Please apply only as much stain as will easily absorb into the wood. All excess stain which does not absorb into the wood should be removed with a rag.

How long does this need to dry before it gets wet?

I want to apply it saturday but its supposed to rain sunday.
Asked by: Shane
On some wood I found it dries to a sticky film. I don't think there's any problem getting it wet with water, even though it is still sticky. Just like waxing your car, the water would be repelled and sit on top of the sticky layer of Preserva Wood, but not go through it. But if I just applied a -fresh coat- of Preserva Wood, I would keep it away from rain for a few hours or even overnight. Preserva Wood requires the wood to be dry when it is applied, so that the wood will absorb the Preserva Wood (that is on the instructions on the can). So if you get wet too soon, the wood might absorb the rain instead of absorbing the Preserva Wood.

I used this on a redwood bench which had been outside for several years with no maintenance. It worked as it said it would on the can and the bench looked great when I was done. That was a few weeks ago, and so far, so good. I think I will probably re-apply this fall before the winter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, so good! Color was true, coverage was great! Just put it on our fence 2 weeks ago. It's not completely dry yet, but weather has been mostly cloudy. Coverage is even and the fence looks beautiful. We'll see how it weathers a Pacific Northwest winter.i

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks great Just applied this product to a brand new deck. It looks great because you can still see the wood grain with a darker tone to it. It dries fast. The real test will be after the winter.

Using it on my 160ft long fence. The Pacific Redwood color gets lots of complements from my neighbors, who walk by admiring the fence. The fence boards soak it up. On less absorbant wood, like the stringers on top of the fence, it leaves a thick, sticky coating, still sticky after a month. This is a positive - it means the wood is protected by the Preserva Wood. One negative might be how it interacts with plastic wood, or wood filler. I'm using stainable wood filler, at various place on the fence. Sometimes the Preserva Wood causes the wood filler to shrivel up. I haven't solved this problem yet.
