How to control volume of the water

How to control volume of the water with this valve?
Asked by: Freesurfer
To control the volume or flow of water, pull bottom of the faucet handle toward you. The volume increases the farther out you pull the handle. The water temperature is controlled by turning (not pulling) the faucet handle clockwise for hot or counter-clockwise for cold. So if you want a small amount of hot water, turn the handle clockwise and pull the bottom toward you slightly.

Can you control volume with is valve?

Reading other questions, I understand you can push off, pull on and left/right temperature. But I want to know if you can control water volume? If so, how? Like, for example, as you pull the water starts and the more you pull more water comes out.
Asked by: BigAl
You adjust the volume by how far out you pull the faucet handle. The farther you pull the handle, the more water flow comes out, up to the maximum. A very slight pull gives a trickle if you want.

Is this valve a pull on or turn on valve? Will temperature of water be hot or cold when turned on until it can be adjusted?

Asked by: Anonymous
You pull the faucet handle to start the water flow. You can turn the handle to select the water temperature before you pull it to start the water flow. Turn it clockwise for hot water or counter-clockwise for cold water, in the middle for luke-warm. Keep in mind the valve has an adjustable ring (red in the photo) to limit the maximum hot water temperature to prevent scalding. It comes from the factory at the highest setting, but if the installer or homeowner resets it to a lower maximum, leaving the faucet handle in the middle will result in a cooler mix.

Pressure Balance Rough Volume Control Valve Body with Screwdriver Stops is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works almost too well Okay...we built our home in 2010. It's wonderful and we have all American Standard faucets, shower, toilet etc. The real complaint is that our downstairs shower valve (anti-scald) keeps "popping". Meaning the water is coming out hot and then it "pops" not allowing you to continue to turn the water to hot. It's like there is a brick wall in the handle. The first time it did it (two winters ago), we replaced the valve - no big deal and we went on with life. The next year, it "popped" again and we replaced it. Again, not a big deal thinking it's keeping us safe. However, it has now done it for a third time and third year in a row. Now we have to replace it again. It's getting expensive. The upstairs shower has the exact same head/hardware/valves and we've never had a problem. So although the anti-scald thing is great, for some reason it overdoes it's job on our downstairs shower. Yes, I still recommend it for the safety feature but this is the last time I'm replacing it. It does it again and I'll get something completely different.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Flow-Adjustable Shower Faucet Valve My high rise condo building was replacing the water pipes in all the units and the city required replacing the old separate hot and cold shower faucet valves with a single pressure balance faucet. The faucet valve the association chose for all units was not flow-adjustable and from another brand. It was either off or full blast water pressure. I wanted one where I could adjust how much hot or cold water would come out. One of my neighbors already had a code-compliant pressure balancing and flow-adjustable faucet from American Standard that she was happy with, so I decided to purchase a similar American Standard faucet valve. This valve was installed by the plumbers who were installing the other valves in the building, so I can't grade how easy or hard installing this valve was compared to the others. They didn't seem to have a problem with installation. Also required were screwdriver stops that allow water supply to be turned off at the valve without turning off the water supply to the rest of the units, which this valve has. This valve also has an adjustable ring to set the maximum hot water temperature for safety to avoid scalding, if you have children or elderly, for example. It comes with the setting at the maximum temperature. Changing the setting requires removing the faucet handle and cover. The valve comes with installation and adjustment instructions I'm very happy with the feel and function of this shower valve. The faucet handle (part of the trim package that has to be purchased separately) turns smoothly to select water temperature, and pulls to select amount of water flow, and has a solid feel. The sound of the water coming out of the bathtub spout seems quieter than the loud sound coming from my neighbors' new non-adjustable shower faucets. Given it's an American Standard brand, I'm expecting a long useful life. It comes with a "Limited Lifetime Function and Finish Warranty" for as long as original residential buyer owns the faucet (5 years for commercial installations). Labor not included. The American Standard Colony Soft trim package I purchased separately included the faucet handle and escutcheon, water spout (both shown in photos), and shower head. It was a "Satin Nickel" finish and I wish I had purchased the Chrome finish instead. This doesn't affect the function of the valve
