Customer Questions & Answers

Mine is leaking around the plastic knob on top. How do I fix it?

Asked by: Pappy6
Hi psppy6, If water is coming out of the vacuum breaker only when the faucet is turned on then you can get a repair kit to replace it. Home Depot sells the kit to repair both the vacuum breaker and the handle. (Prier faucet,C-144KT-807) If water is coming out of the vacuum breaker when the faucet is turned off, then you will have to repair or replace the stem inside the faucet. Which style you have will determine if you can just unscrew the stem and replace it or if you have to remove the entire faucet and replace it. That is what happened to me, the stem broke off inside at the point where it makes the seal. When I went to repair it I remove the handle and the stem and the tip was broke off, so even with all that removed no water was coming out. So I had to remove the entire faucet and replace it. Hope this is not the case for you. Hope this helps.

Customer Reviews

1/2 in. x 12 in. Brass MPT x SWT Heavy Duty Frost Free Anti-Siphon Outdoor Faucet Hydrant is rated 2.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mine Failed I had to replace a frost free valve that had ruptured during the winter despite being drained. At the time of purchase the store did not have a long enough valve in stock, so I had to order this valve which took a few days to arrive. The valve looked great and the installation went well..........until minutes after I turned on the water. Everything looked good at first when I turned on the water, checked for leaks and operated the valve a few times in the yard. When I walked past the closet where the inside plumbing was I heard water hissing. I found water spraying from the manufacturer's soldered joint where the valve seat is soldered to the valve body. I had connected to the valve with a threaded fitting which was pre-soldered to a length of pipe and did not solder anywhere near the valve. I also used two wrenches to tighten the threaded fitting so as not to torque the valve body. In desperation, after removing the valve stem I heated the seat assembly to remove and examine it. I found evidence of little solder in the joint, much of the surface area was bare brass. Sadly in my attempt to remedy the situation, I damaged the copper body tubing and felt I could not return the damaged valve. When I went back to the store to buy a replacement, they did have another brand valve which was long enough in stock, however the valve seat end was thicker and would not fit through the original hole in the 10" thick concrete wall. I ended up installing a cheap valve without a back flow preventer. This valve was well constructed, however I believe there was a failed step in the soldering assembly process. I'm sure the manufacturer would have replaced it, had I not damaged it while trying to avoid a time delay for reordering. I wish it had worked so I could recommend it as it fit perfectly. Maybe next time.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 4 months in and this is a failure I only use this faucet to clean things, I have probably used it 10 times. Today I tried to turn the knob off and it just spun, the whole thing is shot. Home Depot is great but do not waste youre time on this piece of junk.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Faucet- No Issues Yet I bought this after a poor experience with a cheaper hydrant sold at Home Depot. This is WAY better quality. I wish I would have bought this the first time. So far I haven't and any issues (no leaks). I'm very happy with my purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality Soldered Connection I should have listened to the other review regarding the poor quality soldered connection. Mine leaked instantly upon installation and first test at the factory soldered joint between the spigot flange and copper pipe. Now I have to remove and re-solder properly myself. Total hassle! I recommend others check and re-solder this joint themselves, or save the trouble and buy a higher quality product from a plumbing supply store.
