Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding these garage door torsion springs from Prime-Line Products. Prime-Line Products provides a handy Spring Selection Chart for the selection of their springs based on the spring’s dimensions instead of the door’s weight… please visit Prime-Line’s website where you can access the Spring Selection Guide for proper selection of your springs.

As an important safety precaution: all broken or malfunctioning hardware should be replaced with matching hardware, without any modifications. However; these garage door springs can cause serious injury if not handled and installed properly. If your door has a torsion spring (coiled around a tube or shaft above the garage door opening), we highly recommend that you do not attempt to replace, adjust or relieve tension on the spring, cable or drum yourself. Also, that you do not attempt to remove or loosen any bolts attaching bottom brackets, bearing plates or endplates, but rather to call a professional door service firm to prevent serious bodily injury. If attempting to replace the torsion springs yourself, it is important that the removal or adjustment of torsion springs is not attempted with any other tool other than the GD-52238. Failure to do so may result in personal injury or property damage. The winding rods (Item no. GD-52238) consist of two identical 1/2 in. x 16 in. rods which are used to wind and unwind the tension on torsion springs and are the only tools recommended for this purpose. Do not use on winding cones larger than 33/64" in diameter.

Please see the product specifications and illustrations found in our Spring Selection Guide to assure that the proper replacement spring has been selected and, in the case of dual spring installations, proper use of LEFT WIND & RIGHT WIND SPRINGS is imperative. When dual spring installations are involved, it is important to replace both springs.

Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding these garage door springs from Prime-Line Products. If your garage door is an old-style “Cantilever” type door; a door that is one solid panel that cantilevers up and out of the way… we do not have any cantilever garage door springs. If it is the newer sectional type garage door and the door weighs about 120 lbs., then a 120 lb. spring on each side will work.
How to weigh a garage door: A garage door may be weighed by using a bathroom scale, as long as the door weighs less than 300 pounds. Open the garage door to its full open position. Block both bottom rollers in the track with two “C” Clamps or locking pliers. Release spring tension by disconnecting cable at overhead support bar on both sides. Remove the “C” Clamps (or pliers) and allow door to lower onto the scale. Heavy doors may require two people to lower. (EXAMPLE: a 150 pound door needs two (2) 150 pound springs; one on each side.)
Kindly see the spring selection charts and the safety precautions attached below. For additional questions regarding this item, or any other product manufactured by Prime-Line Products, please call their toll free number at (877) 649-9740, or contact them by email at info@primeline.net Read Less
