It does not slide in. It must be very tediously pushed in a little at a time. I worked in the custom window industry back in the 70's and yes they used to just easily slide in.

Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding this item from Prime-Line Products. The base of this pile weatherstripping is made of plastic, and it is designed to insert into a track without the need to glue. Consider item number T-8658 if an adhesive-backed pile weatherstripping is required, just keep in mind that its plastic base measures 1/4 inch in width vs. the 1/8 inch width of the T-8658.

No glue or adhesive strip. You can not slide it in either. the tabs on both sides must be very laboriously pushed into place. I used a putty knife. It will take a long time to do a house full of windows.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by 18 Ft. Storm Door and Window Weatherstrip Wasn't what I thought it would be. The description turned out to be a little misleading. February 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Slow to recieve Exactly what I needed. Took way too long to get from time of ordering on-line. Could have been faster for me by ordering directly from source of supply. But very happy I received the correct item to complete the task at hand!! December 8, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Replacement removable window glass panel weatherstripping Just what I was after. It fits a large number of movable window and storm panels yet nearly no one carries this smaller size of of replacement weatherstripping in their stores. December 8, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Improved Seal & Reduced Noise when Closing Installed easily using a screen splining tool (recommended in the instructions.) The grooved roller on the tool worked best for me. Just hold the tool at a 45 degree angle to the edge you are rolling. The groove will catch the tabs and snap them into place. I was popping in 3-4 tabs per roll after some practice. A standard screwdriver worked for the tabs located in corners that the splining tool couldn't reach. October 13, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Replacement weatherstrip for 50+ year old storm windows I tried this product on three of my old storm windows. I was hoping that it would lessen the condensation problem. I thought it might as I have lived in the house since I was a kid and I don't remember the problem then. The old weatherstrip disintegrated when I inspected it so I though this might help. It didn't. The windows now are very tight and very difficult to raise and lower and I still just as much condensation. So if your considering it for this problem, forget it. Product also is not as pictured. Old weatherstrip slid into track very easily. This stuff has little tabs on the sides is very tedious to install. It must be pushed into the track not slide in. November 10, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The weatherstrip fit great and works wonderfully. My older storm door has an unusual size felt weatherstrip. Many stores had 1/4 inch but I needed 3/16 inch width. I found it online at Home Depot, ordered it and had it in a few days. Thanks Home Depot online. January 31, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by The product has great features The product arrived on time and will work great. It had been 25 years since we put the storm windows in and it was about time they were replaced. Thanks October 30, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by I easily got an item that was not in the store at Home Depot or Lowes. very happy with the product. This web site is annoying. I don't want to answer all of these questions. Next time I won't bother. April 3, 2012
