Customer Questions & Answers

Can you cut one of these and double it and a whole one up to create a 36" track?

I live in an older mobile home that has three 38"+ deep cabinets. It's practically impossible to get into the back of these cabinets. I know the cutting of the track has already been asked and answered but what about doubling them up to make one longer track. Does anyone know if that would work? It doesn't have to hold a lot of weight since it will likely just hold towels (they're in the bathroom) and possibly some cleaning supplies. Thanks!
Asked by: Cass
No, this wouldn't work at all. Doubling them up (overlap) adds significant height, and you'd never get the plastic slide over it. The only way I could think was if you had a solid plywood between each drawer space and could have the ends meet and be screwed to the plywood above/below. You'd still get some catch though, and depending on how well it was executed you might break off the plastic slides even then.

Am i able to cut the guide? I only need 14 inches for my drawers

Example: I have looked at the manual and can't figure out what I did wrong.
Asked by: Patrick
If memory serves me, the guide, with the plastic attachments at each end should fit almost exactly the distance from the inside edge of the drawer opening in the cabinet front to the back edge next to the wall. Most kitchen cabinets are 24 inches deep (outside dimensions), but there are exceptions. There should be no reason that you could not cut the metal track down to the proper size, but you may need to drill new holes in the track, depending on your attachment. It's not too expensive, so if it doesn't work, you haven't wasted a lot.

I had to modify it pretty heavily to fit my purposes - replacing bottom wooden slides with steel guides on a dresser/desk/nightstand. I cut the back off to get the desired length, drilled a new screw hole, and cut out the bottoms of the front/back plastic anchors to use as spacers to raise the bar just a little off the bottom of the dresser so it wouldn't scrape. I didn't use the wheels as they didn't fit anywhere useful in this particular piece of furniture. The wheels were very cheap feeling and I have trouble imagining them bearing much weight at all. The drawers wobble at the front when being used because of no wheels, but it's functional. I had to grease the slides too. I have yet to see how well it holds up to kids beating on it...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally found the (almost) perfect replacement... I found this drawer guide kit to be an almost exact replacement for the guides used in my 1965-era cabinet drawers. The metal runner and plastic connection pieces are not the exact shape, but fit perfectly with the old system. This kit is designed (according to the instructions) to be installed in the cabinet cavity ABOVE the drawer instead of below it, but it could work fine either way. My only problem is that as a replacement, the wheel guides didn’t work with the size of my drawer, so I purchased and installed two new side saddle guides to replace the worn-out ones. One note, at slide first slide, there was a heck of a squeaking noise of the plastic guide on the metal runner. That was eliminated with rubbing a a bit of wax on the runner as a lubricant. If this lasts as long as the old one, it should keep going for another 50 years. Although I used (most of) this kit as replacement parts, it should work fine for use in new cabinet construction.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good drawer repair I've struggled for years to find a replacement drawer glide for my dresser drawers. I like that the metal guide can be trimmed for a custom fit. I no longer worry about my drawer falling out as I extend it from the dresser.
