My husband says we should leave it on. I say remove it. He thinks it will protect it and keep it looking newer longer.

I think it will bake on and be a mess.

What do you advise?

Thank you for your inquiry regarding this item from Prime-Line Products. The plastic film is designed to protect against scratches during manufacturing and shipping, but not to remain over the kickplate once installed. My fear would be the same; that if left on permanently it may bake on as you describe, or turn white, or begin to flake off unevenly.

Remove it after installing it. The film makes it look shabby and holds moisture to the metal.

Have a semi horseshoe bar....10'....90 degree curvature over that distance...so no individual piece would have very much pliability required
Thinking ...with proper spacing ...of maybe attempting to use #3# of these

Thoughts ??? Material too rigid ??

These kick plates can be cut to size with an electric jig saw using a fine tooth, metal cutting blade. The cut-line should rest slightly over the edge of a solid workbench-type surface and braced firmly using care to avoid scratching the finished surface. The cut edge should then be filed smooth to remove any sharp burrs, re-drilling any predrilled installation holes if removed by cutting. Be sure to use all safety precautions when working with metal and metal-cutting tools.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by solved sun damage problem on bottom of door This item looks very good at bottom of door... covered sun damage. April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Brass-like Kicj Plate Door plate arrived at HD for pick up earlier than expected. Product was easy to install, fits door perfectly and looks great. February 16, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not really brass This came in a box with no packing material and was all bent and scratched. It is very thin, flimsy, and clearly not really brass when comparing with my original kickplate. The holes did not line up with the holes in my original kickplate or door either. The product on the store was shrink wrapped to a heavy piece of cardboard, but this special order size was just awful. Made me wonder if it has already been returned before. I will be returning this one. My first bad experience with Home Depot. September 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Looks great Looks great but put all screws in before tightening any of the. This was a replacement kick plate and getting the screws to line up was difficult because I tightened as I went so the last one became impossible to get right. User error. Janet September 29, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Serves the purpose at a reasonable cost and with reasonable effort Brass kick plate was a little thin, but serves the purpose of saving scuff narks on bottom of door area. Comes with 12 brass screws so with a little electric drill action to form the base holes and a little electric screw driver action to drive in the screws it's all set - about 15 minutes should do it. September 2, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Brass Kick Plate The plate arrived in great shape and was easy to put up, but I was shorted 2 brass screws. Fortunately I had some that matched pretty good. September 22, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Looks great so far. Needed to replace our kick plate and couldn't find this size in stores. Very glad to find it online in brass finish. Looks great. Was thinner than our last one, but still works. Shipping was slower than expected, but it got here with no problems. August 26, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by appealing look easy install I lived in my home for 21 years this is the third time I changed it so the average time before it gets pitted look to it and loses its shine is about 7 years it is located under porch hang so it doesn't get wet.it could stand up to quality a little longer.
