Just did this today. The ball bearing had come out of my old drive-in ball catch. I pulled the spring out with pliers. There was a brass "X" at the bottom of the casing. Used mini needle nose pliers to pull the casing out of the door by grabbing part of the "X" with the pliers. It came right out easy!

Thank you for your inquiry regarding this item from Prime-Line Products. A flat head screwdriver should be all you need to remove this item. Using caution (as you may be required to stand on a step stool or ladder with a screwdriver in hand), pry the flat head tip under the rim of the ball catch and pry it upwards carefully.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 19 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Forced to order online The housing for the ball bearing is cheap pot metal and that failed on the item I have now replaced with this new one. The Brunswick store showed 12 in stock but the store personnel could not find any. By ordering on line, it did cost twice as much as it should have. February 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install Easy to install, replaced worn out parts with these, took about five minutes. June 23, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Small but quailty item I used a pair of these drive-in ball catches as replacements for the 7 year old ones that failed (different brand). I lifted the old ones out and since the retaining sleeves remained in the holes, I slid the black sleeves off the ball catches and dropped them in. The catch plates were already in place so no need to mount them. I didn't have to adjust the ball heights. It took only a few minutes to do both doors (pantry doors) and they work better than the originals. June 2, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works well but..... I received this drive-in ball catch quickly from Home Depot. It has a good brass finish on the strike plate and the ball moves smoothly in it's casing. The only downside to the purchase was it does not have a brass plated mount plate for the ball latch so I had to shim the ball latch up to engage the strike plate. June 9, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect Fit! This ball catch was an exact match for the ones that needed to be replaced in my French doors. Installation took less than five minutes. Perfect!! April 21, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good purchase Product is actually better than catch home builder installed. I did have to remove the outer black sheath for the catch to fit in existing hole February 17, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Needs better specs This was to replace a door catch, and from the specs I "guessed" that it would fit the existing hole from the old one. The specs were confusing, and I wasn't sure, but I ordered anyway thinking I could always return it. Although it did fit perfectly, I think it would be helpful if the specs included bore hole size, or what size augur would be used to drill the hole, etc, so that I could at least take some measurements and be sure about it. Since it wasn't carried in the store, I couldn't take the old one in to compare. Make this easier. September 24, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Latch Review Latch was easy to install. Not as well built as what I replaced, but adequate. October 7, 2014
