Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding this item from Prime-Line Products. Kindly follow the installation instructions below, using caution when drilling to avoid breakage of glass.
1. The bolt tip of this lock will engage into the bottom rail of the fixed panel of the patio door. Measure the drilling location carefully as per instructions below to avoid breaking the glass. Measuring for this feature of the lock will determine the maximum height of where the lock body can be mounted on the back edge of the sliding panel [SEE FIG. A]. To avoid breaking the glass when drilling into the fixed panel, first refer to the handle set on the active panel and measure from the edge where glass meets the frame, to the furthest edge of the handle’s mounting holes [SEE FIG. B]. The area beyond this measurement to the opposite vertical edge would be “the clear zone” available for drilling that you will have to work with on the bottom rail of the fixed panel.
2. Second, mark this maximum “clear zone” height measurement on the bottom rail of the fixed panel, measuring from the edge down [SEE FIG. C]. From the top edge of the fixed panel’s bottom rail, down to the marked measurement would be the area where the glass is located… MAKE SURE NOT TO DRILL INTO THIS UPPER AREA AS GLASS WILL BREAK. From the bottom edge of the fixed panel bottom rail, up to the mark placed on the rail would be the “safe area” for drilling. Double check measurements prior to drilling, staying away from maximum height mark as much as possible.
3. Now [SEE FIG. D], place the lock against the back edge (non-closing edge) of the active panel (in the unlocked position) to where the bolt will protrude towards the fixed panel, beneath the marked line dividing the “glass area” with the “safe/clear zone”… and make sure the tip of the bolt is separated from the fixed panel at least 1/16th of an inch. Mark the 3 screw holes on the back edge of the active panel, as well as the bolt hole on the fixed panel [SEE FIG. A].
4. [SEE FIG. E] Drill pilot holes for 3 screws with 1/8th inch drill bit and bolt hole with 5/16 inch drill bit.
5. Optional: Venting position bolt hole may be added 2 inches back from closed panel.
WARNING: Be sure drill bit and screws will not make contact with glass.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BigAng very easy to install approx. 5 min. the lock pin could stand being a little bigger. January 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Door Lock Needed a replacement door lock for a sliding patio door and our neighborhood Home Depot had just what we needed. Love these guys. February 17, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good if properly installed This is the 2nd lock I purchased. Liked the ease of use and security provided. However be attentive to installation. Be sure if fits properly where it needs to be placed and take care in drilling the holes exactly where they need to be to properly align the locking pin in the door. Once properly installed easy to use and can be locked for added security. January 1, 2013
