Customer Questions & Answers

People say the length-lock is loose. Can't I just drill through both tubes and put in screws?

i.e., once I find the length I want, why not just drill holes through both tubes behind the length-lock and put in short screws? Seems like that would make it secure, as long as you don't need the "partially open" option (which is just silly, since it'd never be secure).

you can drill and bolt it but you lose the adjustment factor. And when you raise it it may be to long to store in upright position. I noticed that the adjustment was loose also and when you would rattle the arm or door you could just push the rod back slowly and it would not lock. It was not a run of the mill repair but I had fixed it by cutting a compression spring to length (3/16 - 1/4 ") and inserting it into the gap in front of the adjustment latch. It keeps pressure on the latch, holding it in locked position until you press it. It works great now and stays put.

Can this be installed all the way at the bottom (in the track)?

Can this be installed so that it would not be so visible when locked?
Asked by: Jon
Jon, I installed mine roughly 8 inches up from inside track. Worked out great and I feel was more stable.

Looks better than a piece of wood, especially if your selling the home it is installed in.

Patio White Sliding Door Security Bar is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from dose what is supposed to do! but do what I do when you open the bar ,press lock and shorten it so... dose what is supposed to do! but do what I do when you open the bar ,press lock and shorten it so if it fall when you close the door behind you it wont lock you out!!!! I found it will stay put if you don't retract the arm all the way in because then it interferes with the self holding pin. Also the plastic lock that is supposed to hold the arm from being raised from out side dose not fit the metal receiver bracket that well and the clips are to short to hold the bar in place. I found out when my cat jumped up at the door and hit the bar and dislodged it from the bracket. I use a rubber band to hold it in place now, worked just fine. that is why only 4 stars. It is still a good secondary lock!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Useful Product I installed a total of 3 of these on new sliding windows. I aligned them along a lower window grid rail to keep it discreet and still be able to lock the bars in the vertical position when opening the windows. 1 of the 3 had a loose locking mechanism. For peace of mind, I drilled through one side of the 2 bars and installed a small screw to keep the bars at a fixed length. The product is a worthwhile investment to help make it harder for the bad guys to break in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does a great job even when half installed! We have been using this to keep our toddler from escaping and it works great even though my husband didn't bother to install the bracket that the bar rests on. I imagine it would be very sturdy if he ever decides to complete it!
