Customer Questions & Answers

What is the measurement of the latch between each screw? And can these latches be used with windows made of wood?

Asked by: Annie
I forget the measurement but it is written on the front of the packaging. It´s either 2 1/8" or 2 1/16" I think. I am using them on my wood windows with success. Not sure they look as correct as the regular latches you would use for wood windows BUT these work much better than any other latch I´ve tried. They are WHITE and you can´t paint them so that is a consideration. But again, working latches is more important to me than how it looks.

Need two window latches for old 8500 series double hung window (Not Stock??)

Asked by: dick
Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding this item from Prime-Line Products. Unfortunately there is not one lock that is standard to all windows, and there is no sure way to determine the correct replacement lock without removing one and matching its dimensions to those listed online. Window manufacturers can often use more than one design within a given series or product line used over the years, making it sometimes difficult to provide an exact match when relying on manufacturer name and series alone. I would encourage you to visit Prime-Line’s website to find the correct replacement window latch your window requires. Shims for this hardware

My windows don't line up perfectly, the latch is just higher than the trap so they don't meet correctly. Is there a shim for the trap to line up perfectly with the latch?
Asked by: Domi
I had the same problem with one of my windows and all I used was pieces of paper bunched together to make a shim and it worked just fine. You can try that and see if it works for you.

Vertical Hung Window Latch is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This was best latch to replace my old latches that where failing to keep my windows shut. Here´s ... This was best latch to replace my old latches that where failing to keep my windows shut. Here´s the trick to installing without cracking wood: 1. predrill holes with 3/32" drill. 2. position the larger piece of the latch away from you so it overlaps the back window slightly. The back window doesn´t go up so it won´t hit the latch. Now you can position the back (thin) latch back a bit away from the edge so there is less chance to split wood. You can push and hold the thin catch against the larger piece as you mark the holes. The design makes it very easy to get a perfect alignment. I´ve installed 2 of these where I had the biggest problem of windows opening up. Going to get enough to do all the windows now.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst design ever I don't know who wrote the positive reviews but I can't imagine it is anyone who ever tried installing these sash locks. They are designed such that the piece mounted on upper sash must be mounted flush with the face of the sash, and therefore the screws driven into the sash less than 1/16" from the edge of the sash! Guess what happens? If you manage to get the screws in without splitting the wood, all it would take would be a slight pressure to break the sash lock free from the sash - and your burglar is in the house.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good replacement latch After searching the net, I could only find 2 vendors that sell this kind of replacement latch. The other site wanted to charge $15 in shipping so I went with Home Depot. This is a good latch. Giving 4 stars instead of 5 because two of the screws strip very easily. I ended up using two screws from my original latch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Fit - Milgard type I looked for weeks and weeks for a lock to replace a broken one found in my recently purchased home. Even the Milgard dealer did not have one that fit, as windows are older models. This one was the magic fit!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good value for the money Latch is much better built than the 60+ year old latches that were in the window before. These were very easy to install and are very secure.
