Customer Questions & Answers

How do the old ones come out and new ones get installed?

Asked by: Barb
My old pins just broke off. You can probably just pry off the cap, and the pin will just fall out. Installation is simple. There's directions on the package. It will come in pieces: the pin (with a fat plug end and a thinner shaft), the spring, and the cap. (this is the hardest sounding part, it's not as bad as it may sound - I'm trying to give as clear step by step instructions as I can) First make sure the pin is actually going to fit in your existing screen. The hole in the screen frame for the pin has a big hole and small hole. Insert the thinner shaft end of the pin into the bigger hole, then through the frame into the smaller hole. Make sure that the thinner shaft end fits through the smaller hole, and that the fatter plug end fits nicely through the bigger hole. The most likely case is that the plug end will be too big. If that is the case, make sure that the plug end actually fits into the hole in the window frame (it probably will, there's usually room for error there). If it does, then just grab a drill and drill the holes on the screen frame to the appropriate size (7/32in bit for the plug side, and I don't know for the thinner shaft end). When you drill the hole, it might be a little too tight to allow the pin to move freely. If that's the case, just put the pin in and wiggle it around some to get it to make room. Now the easy part: Put the spring on the pin, so it sits on top of the plug part of the pin. Insert the pin through the screen frame so that the spring is inside the frame, and then snap the cap onto the shaft. I had to do all of the above and it took more time and effort to get my drill out than to actually install the pin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I should have purchased sooner! I had several broken screens that needed new plunger bolts for about 4-5 years now. If I knew how easy these were to install I would have installed them years ago! Great product and super easy installation to replace the old broken ones. .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Product worked, when options for replacement were few. Easy to assemble and worked as expected. The plungers it replaced had handles that made it easier to unlatch the screens.
