You describe the coupling as being made of EPDM rubber. I contacted Fernco, the manufacturer, and was informed that the rubber component of their ProFlex line of couplings is NEOPRENE rubber. Is the version sold by Home Depot a specially made coupling? They do have slightly different properties.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by excellent product This product is put together very well and provides a very solid connection between the pipes. However, the best feature is that it provides a smooth transition between the ID differences which was a big deal especially when the downstream pipe has a smaller ID than the upstream. I would highly recommend this over a standard nohub connection that just merges the OD of pipes together with a banded connection. Pay special attention to the usage (i.e. Cast Iron to PVC or PVC to Copper, etc.). Also the original picture showed a different coupling than the description but the description is correct (PVC to Copper). The item # is 3007-33 and the picture shows 3005-33 (basically a wrong picture and correct product). December 10, 2014
