Answer:
Yes, I had a dimmer switch installed and used a 95 watt standard bulb. It really was worth the effort to have soft controlled lighting, as well as bright light, when needed.

Answer:
This fixture can be controlled by a dimmer switch, but make sure you also select a light bulb that is dimmable as well. Many new CFL and LED bulbs either cannot be dimmed or have specific dimmer controls that are required for compatibility.

I have had this mini pendant light in my dining room for about 6 years and have not had a problem changing the bulbs. I recently bought the larger version of this pendant light from the same manufacturer and did not have any problem installing the bulb.

Thanks for your question. A couple of factors can create this problem, but both are easily solved. (1) During installation of the fixture, make sure all threaded connections are secure. A thread locking adhesive (such as Loc-tite) can ensure that once assembled, the stems and fixture cannot come free during bulb replacement. (2) Be sure to buy a quality light bulb. Many non-name brand bulbs have low quality metal bases that "freeze" in the lamp socket. We use high quality, nickel-plated copper screw shell sockets (to obtain a "damp" safety listing). One final thing that you can try is to coat the light bulb base VERY lightly with a petroleum jelly (vaseline). This will slow down any electrolysis between the aluminum lamp base and the nickel-plated fixture socket.
Over the last several years, Progress Lighting has sold thousands of this light fixture and this particular issue has not been a problem for most satisfied customers. Read Less

Answer:
Nickel is corrosive resistant and maintains its mechanical and physical characteristics under extreme temperatures. Nickel plating is often used as a way to protect corrosion-prone metals and has been in use since 1870. Additionally, it is used in many alloys for use in many industrial applications.

Answer:
This fixture is designed for interior use only. The base metal is steel with nickel plating, so. with prolonged exposure to the conditions you describe, those material will eventually corrode. Since the fixture is not tested for an exterior application, we cannot make any claim regarding how it will hold up under those conditions.

You can install CFL/LED lamps as long as the equivalent rating does not exceed the original maximum wattage. For example, if a 13-watt CFL equals a 60-watt incandescent lamp, that 13-watt lamp can be used in a fixture that has a MAX rating of >=60 watts. Please pay careful attention to the bulb manufacturer’s warning/caution statements on the packaging or printed on the lamp. For example, many CFL’s will Read More

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simple, unique and complementary of any environment The light came in perfect form (I am fascinated that you can ship such a breakable product and have it arrive in one piece). We've had several compliments on it to date. It's a beautiful and functional light without being overpowering. AND, it was easy to put together. Because of the weight of the light, make sure to have a competent contractor install it. October 30, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love this pendant light! This unique pendant light has ultra clean, very modern lines yet it has a retro look due to the slightly green hue of the glass disc. The materials and machining on this light are excellent. The 20 inch diameter glass disc is 1/2 inch thick and adds great visual weight. The glass disc seems to float on top of a frosted glass piece, which has a ridge to keep the disc in place. The metal rod and ceiling disc are brushed nickel. It uses a standard bulb up to 100 watts, which gives plenty of light when needed and is really nice if you put it on a dimmer switch. I had the smaller mini pendant from the same manufacturer in my previous home in a much smaller dining area and loved it...so glad to find this larger version for my new dining room. My brother installed it in about 40 minutes. January 6, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great light! We bought this to complement a couple of the smaller pendant lights in the same style for a recent kitchen remodel. Great choice. Much easier to put up than the smaller lights, since the length of the downtubes was not as critical. People who see these all of these lights together are amazed at the prices, as they look like they came from a high-priced "speciality lamp" store. May 13, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice addition to kitchen The brushed nickel light pendant looks good and was a good value. Only thing that I wish was different is the frosted glass piece (light shade) in the center - I wish that I had a choice of either color or material. I would have preferred a brushed nickel piece to match the shaft (and our other lights) but even with the white frosted shade, it looks nice. Installation would have been easier if I had somebody to assist. Solo installation proved to be cumbersome but manageable. August 25, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ceiling Light Nice light gave my kitchen an update and a cleaner look November 11, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Progress Pendant Review Product is a reasonable knock-off of similar Kichler pendants, for a lot less money. Very contemporary, sharp looking. Have 3 smaller versions installed in dining room in principal residence; have the larger pendant installed in the dining room of a condominium. Small ones take up to 100W, the large one, up to 15oW, I believe. Would recommend, especially if you like contemporary stainless or nickel finishes from Kichler. February 28, 2008
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install and very beautiful! The look is very clean and modern. A dimmer switch is a must to really get the right look. I recommend a clear bulb since you can see it on the bottom. February 25, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great light! I bought this for my dining room and it looks amazing! Great combination of modern and elegant. Glass is good quality and heavy. Worth the extra money for this version of the light as there is a similar light in store without the frosted glass part. August 7, 2012
