Planting time

I live in Philadelphia PA. When is a good time to plant it?
Asked by: Charlie
Hello, This is Proven Winners. We suggest planting shrubs in the Spring is the best time. They have the whole growing season to root into the surrounding soil and its often cooler in the spring which allows the plant to root in without any added stresses. Planting shrubs in the Summer can be done, but they would require more frequent watering until the roots can begin to spread out and root in and start getting their own water from the surrounding soil since initially the roots would still be contained mostly in the original root ball. In the Fall, its often a good time to plant as well due to cooler temperatures, but since the roots haven't traveled very far away from the original rootball, I would recommend mulching heavily before going into winter to help the plant survive the cold. Thank you for the question! -PW

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Haven't flowered yet, but looks healthy, if it's the right plant! The problem was I ordered 2 hydrangeas, the same size. It was an invincibelle, an invinciball, and a bobo. They were not labelled, do i did not know what they were. Ok, I could probably distinguish the bobo, since it's a paniculata and not an arborescens like the other 2, but I had to wait until next year to find out. And since it hasn't flowered yet (one is about too), I still have no idea what they are. Proven Winners, please label your plants!!!
