Customer Questions & Answers

Will it climb anything?

We have an 8' dead tree in our yard (it never really grew or flourished and my husband doesn't want to remove); if I plant this beside it, can/will the shrub grow onto it? thanks ~
Asked by: mcmomof4
We had set up chicken wire along the back side to give it something to climb. It initially needed some help setting up around it but has since taken to the area and is growing around the chicken wire.

I have 2 of these, how far away should I plant them from each other? Or, can I plant them in the same hole?

Asked by: Jva34
You can plant them in the same hole and get a fuller plant!

Is it normal for the base stems to be brown?

Asked by: Jva34
When mine arrived it looked kind of sad and bent. I planted it and now it is nice and green and climbing well. I would say that it gets a little shocked in travel but will rally after planting.

Bees? And how far apart to plant?

Will this attract a lot of bees? We had a clematis at my childhood home by the front porch but bees never bothered it. I want to put it in my back yard but don't want to invite swarms of bees. I realize with flowers there are bees, but I have read that many people do not find them to bother their clematis. Is that the case with this particular one as well? Also, I do not see anything regarding how far apart to plant on this site. I see the spread is 72 inches, but I have looked at these on a few sites and some say to plant 3' apart and others say 4' apart. I want to plant several across a fence and I want them to grow together to cover it. I'm trying to determine how many I will need. Thanks!
Asked by: Rockc1402
I'd say either. At 4', the vines will be sparser longer. At 3' the fence will fill in sooner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet and Delicate Flowers Very impressed with the supplier of this plant. Called ahead of time to let me know how and when the plant will arrive. With sub zero weather this was vital information. Also gave me instructions on how to care for the plant until it is time to plant. The blooms are delicate and vibrant in color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Pretty Climbing Plant I received this plant very quickly after I ordered it. It arrived in a secure package that kept it protected and not at all dried out. We planted it in the flower bed in the hottest heat of the summer and watered it daily. It is thriving wonderfully and is already showing growth after only two months. I did not get blooms this year but I expect to for next season. I will be going back to get more to add to my landscaping.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fragrant summer love clematis Plant arrived in a sturdy travel box. Good condition. A couple of stems broke off during unboxing. I planted mine in full sun by the mailbox. I added some good garden soil since I live in Georgia and the soil here has a lot of clay. I used some garden string and tacks to hold the branches up on the mail box until the plant takes root there. It should be pruned in the spring. I'm looking forward to seeing how sweet it smells since it's a fragrant variety. As always with Proven Winners plants if you have questions you can go to

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A beautilul 2 foot tall plant!!! The Clematis arrived and it was about 2 feet tall, and it was shipped in a special box to prevent damage. This is a full sunlight plant and a climber so we planted it next to our arbor. My wife wanted a matching plant for the other side of the arbor so it was off to The Home Depot for a Shade type for the other side. It only took a couple of minutes to fine the other plant to match. The plants were a bit root bound and needed to be thinned out a bit, we planted them in good loam and they are dooing very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely Climber Proven Winners really impressed me with the way they boxed my Sweet Summer Love Clematis. Thanks to the way they shipped it, the plant arrived in excellent shape. I have included photos so you can see for yourself. This clematis is healthy and sturdy. I have planted it in my flower garden and am training it to climb a tall flower shepherd hook pole. It is too early for flowers, but I am looking forward to the lovely purple buds. Very nice vine, and I am a very happy customer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet Summer it is This plant took to the area quickly, leaving little down time between transplanting it, and started to show new growth very fast. It was set up in an area of the backyard that needed some color and some new life, we set up a system to allow this plant to grown a spread in a vertifcal manner as it grew, preventing it from hanging along the ground. The blooms added the color we were looking for an have added a great spruce of life into the mix.
