Customer Questions & Answers

Will this plant survive &/or thrive in dappled sun?

It will be in a border near the street
Asked by: bigphyl85
Hi bigphyl85, Yes, the Tuff Stuff Hydrangea can survive and thrive in dappled sun. Its general sunlight requirement is 4+ hours of direct sun a day. However, hydrangeas generally prefer direct morning sun and dappled sun in the afternoon, as it provides relief from the extreme afternoon heat. If it is an area that only receives dappled sun, the hydrangea might require dappled sun for a longer period of time than it does with direct sunlight. It is important that hydrangeas get their necessary amount of sunlight because this will affect their ability to set buds and flower. If you have any questions, please call our hotline (734) 654- 7485. Best regards, Fallon

I wish I could help, but I live in Zone 8 (Seattle area) . The descriptions that I have seen show up to Zone 9. Here is a web page about them - http://www.monrovia.com/plant-catalog/plants/3501/tuff-stuff-reblooming-mountain-hydrangea/

Does Hydrangeas come back every year

Example: I have looked at the manual and can't figure out what I did wrong.
Asked by: Frank
Hydrangeas are a shrub, they lose their leaves for the winter but come back the next year. My Tuff Stuff hydrangeas are very young and small right now, but other hydrangeas in my yard bloom every year.

Will this hydrangea survive in Pasco, WAshington?

Will this hydrangea live in Pasco, wa. 99301?
Asked by: Lorin
I would think so. I live in Northeast Ohio and the weather can be in the 90's in the summer and 15 below in the winter. I would plant it in morning sun and afternoon shade. Even in this hot and humid weather we've been having, mine are growing like crazy.

When the Tuff Stuff hydrangeas first arrived, the 1 quart size, they looked mostly dead. BUT now that it's later in March they are growing leaves on most of the little branches. I'm holding off planting them for a little while and keeping them in a protected place. We have had a later winter than usual. It's now starting to warm up to 50+ each day and we are having lots of rain so I will plant them soon. I live just north of Seattle (by about 5 miles). In their pots they are showing more and more leaves all the time so I have high hopes for these fascinating and lovely hydrangeas. I couldn't buy them locally so took a chance on mail order. I'm happy with the results.

I'm hoping to enjoy blooms on these hydrangeas for many years to come in my gardens. Since I do not make the time to winter protect any of my plants, I am hopefully that these will be hardy and bloom in my zone 5 gardens, unlike many of the marcophylla hybrids I've tried. The winter hardiness and size of these hydrangeas is what convinced me to order them. These will be planted among hostas and lilies in my partial shade perennial border. My order of four hydrangeas - two tuff stuff and two bobo - arrived without issue. The plants are all healthy, leafed out and ready to grow. The packing was excellent - the box was supportive and ventilated and the plant root balls were placed in plastic bags, secured with draw cords. This ensured delivery of my plants with no signs of damage or distress. My only issue with my order is that either a substitution was made or the plant packager grabbed the wrong plant for my 2nd tuff stuff. The marking on the pot leads my to believe my 2nd tuff stuff is actually an invincibelle ruby. Based upon the quality of the shipping system and the sale price [and free shipping offer], I will be ordering a few more hydrangeas from Lowes & Proven Winners later today. They delivered healthy plants that I cannot source locally from either the garden department at a big box store or from a nursery.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Hardy Plant Pretty hardy plant - I had to keep watch and careful attention during the first few weeks just because it is dry and hot. During the recent cold period, it doesn't get as much sunlight, but I still tried to get it some water. this is also planted on my hillside where it is planted somewhat remotely. So far, it is hanging in there. No complaints, Happy so far, just have to be patient so that it really takes root.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very, very happy The hydrangeas arrived in 2 days amid very hot temps. They were in very good condition. They are small which is what I wanted. I'm so happy with them, I've ordered 3 more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Packed I was very impressed with the packaging (see pictures). I have never ordered potted plants on the Internet before. The tag indicates that this hydrangea will grow to be 2.5' x 2.5'. There seem to be really good varieties to chose from compared to the limited selection in the store. I ordered 4 plants. They all arrived in the same box.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from this product is not for online orders They came dormant and after one month they still have no leaves at all. it is better to buy them in the stores and with flowers on it already since it can take 1 to 2 years for you to see their flowers if u buy them online. I purchased one last year that did not gave me flowers, and I purchased 5 this year and they look death. So you end up paying too much for no flowers.
