Hello Mimi,
There are multiple reasons why a plant may not be blooming, but the most likely reason for lack of blooming on a shrub is the timing of the pruning. Many times, people prune a shrub before blooming and this will remove the potential flowers. You could leave the shrub to grow out this year and see if it blooms when it's not pruned. Another possible reason is simply that the shrub is not planted in its ideal growing location that promotes active healthy growth. If it is then you should see flowering every spring. Remember to prune after flowering in late spring to promote flowering later the same fall as a second flush. Do not prune after the fall flower flush.
I hope that this all will help you to getting your weigelia to bloom!

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very popular plant but still no blooms on mine. As far as I can tell from my research, the Wine and Roses Weigela is the same whether it is call "re-blooming" or not, and whether it is called a "shrub" or not. If it's "Wine and Roses," then that means that it's a re-blooming shrub. It gets great reviews as a plant that doesn't look good in winter but makes up for that in summer. The plant came with some dead leaves as shown in the photo. It had no blooms or buds. I pruned those off and new growth started within the week, but still no buds. At this point, the foliage does not seem noticeably dark purple. The new growth is light green and the older growth is dark green. July 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Cute little plant In its 4.5 in. Quart's size, this weigela is a rather small plant. However, it has the potential to become much larger, up to 10 feet by 10 feet, which is impressive. The delivered plant was quite healthy. No flowers yet, not sure if the season is over yet. The plant seems to be pretty happy in its new habitat. As usual with Proven Winners' products, this plant was well packed and in good condition. I do recommend this product. August 2, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Expensive I paid $15 a piece for these online thru HD although they were obviously sent directly from Proven Winners. I guess I am paying for what they are going to look like and not how they looked when they arrived as I doubt I'd have paid $15 for what I received. Having said that they are doing well and I am hoping for the best. June 2, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good plants in good condition Very nice plants at a very reasonable cost. I will order again. August 13, 2014
