Customer Questions & Answers

How difficult is it for a "novice", after installing this system, to do the necesary setup to be able to view remotely? IPHONE, internet, etc.

Or do you need an experienced computer geek to finalize parameters to access remotely?
Asked by: Anonymous
Chas, I am also a novice as far as setting the system up to view remotely, but was able to do it with the help of the Q-See customer service. The instructions are fairly straight forward, so between that and their live chat function (customer service), I got everything running to view remotely. Start with the instructions on the manual, then talk to Q-See if you have any problems.

so it has a motion detector, how do you know there was motion, can you make it beep when there is motion ?

Asked by: Anonymous
Hi, Motion Detection in a DVR works by monitoring the video that is coming from the cameras. When something moves in front of the camera, it causes a change in the pixels of the image, and when the motion detection software detects this, it instructs the DVR to start recording the video stream from that camera. When the pixels return to normal, then the software instructs the DVR to stop recording. The DVR has a section in its menu where you can setup the motion detection. Here, you can set the sensitivity level for motion detection. The smaller and further away an object is, the less likely it will be to trigger motion recording, unless you have the sensitivity level set high. On the other hand, if you have objects close to the camera triggering motion, like large bugs flying by the camera, you might want to set the sensitivity level lower. You need to adjust the setting to meet your individual needs. You can also determine what area of the camera field that you want to trigger motion. For example, if you have a bird in a cage that is constantly moving and triggering recording, you can block out that area of the camera field so that it doesn't record every time the bird moves. On most DVRs, you can also setup a schedule of when you want the system to record on motion, and when you might want it to be constantly recording. When the DVR detects motion you can set it up to send you an email alert with a snap shot image of what caused the motion.

Can I just record and view later without Internet

Asked by: Anonymous
Hi Greg, Yes, you can set up the DVR to record without the use of internet. You would have to view the footage with a monitor connected directly to the DVR.

Are Wireless cameras available for the Q-SEE Advanced Series 8 Ch. D1 Security Surveillance System with 500GB HDD & 4 420 TVL Indoor/Outdoor Cameras?

If a wireless, battery powered camera is available, what distance from the reciever, and is their a signal relay - as the location for the camera and the nearest power source/DVR would be about 900' apart.
Asked by: Anonymous
Hi, At this time, we do not carry at this time wireless battery operated cameras. The wireless cameras we can carry would need to be plugged into a power outlet. These cameras do not have a direct connection to the DVR instead it transmits through a receiver which can be 300 ft. away.

Advanced Series 8 CH D1 Security Surveillance System with 500 GB HDD & 4 420 TVL Indoor/Outdoor Cameras-DISCONTINUED is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Bought this item because it said cameras could be viewed on iPhone or iPad. Was skeptical but after installing cameras and DVR, learned how to download app for iPhone and sure enough, was able to view my cameras from anywhere on iPhone. Good quality daylight camers, low light is better than expected but of course a bit grainy. Able to view outside cameras at night with no other light assistance thanks to the IR lights on the camera. Highly recommend the product and incourage reading the instructions in detail.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I was not able to get the system to be visible through my router, which is the main reason I bought it. Returning it. After multiple attempts to get the system visible through my router I gave up. I tried every approach in the set up guide and none of them worked. Since the remote capability was one of the main reasons I bought this, I'm returning it. I will probably try a Defender system. They seem to have better reviews than Q-See.
