You can plug the camera into your computer with the USB to download the software required to run the camera. It is completely wireless, except for the white power cord. I mounted the camera on my fireplace mantle looking at the family room and the kitchen.

Answer:
On all the time, but requires an optional chip to record. Hence, has nothing to do with motion. You logon to the website and see the image of where the camera is pointing. Low light resolution is medium...not terrible, but not stellar. I logon with my Iphone and the image is good enough to see people 25 feet away.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good camera for the price This camera was a daily deal when I purchased. After some initial problems getting the camera set up on the Q-See website/app (due to using the wrong wi-fi password) it has been easy to use. I set it up on my Samsung smartphone thru google play app, but also on my fiancee's apple ipad. It provides a decent picture and you can hear audio and also speak thru your phone microphone to communicate w/ whomever is near the camera when in use. I am using thru my router's wi-fi connection, although there is a cable if you want to connect directly to it. The down side is that it is not battery operated so you will need to plug the camera into an outlet (there is a pretty long power cord included, but it sticks out from the outlet more than your typical plug. But for my uses, it exceeds my expectations. April 3, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by cheap home monitor Purchased this camera for a cheap way to check on the condition of the home while we are away on vacation in the winter. Just point it in the direction of a cheap dial type thermometer and I can simply call from my cell phone and see if the heat and power is on. Also should put a battery operated clock in the view area to check the camera function. It will open to the last view sometimes and is hard to tell if it is working unless something in the picture changes. Works great for what I need. I also have a dial out temperature monitor that will call me when temp drops below 45F but with winter temps below "0" I want to know the temp inside. December 30, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Easy View camera I bougdht it at the begining of December -- it is now the end of December and I have not been able to use it yet ---- Because --- I was told it was wireless, so I thought I would take it out t the box, plug it in , and it would be working ----No so you have to be a sicentist to get it to work - too complicated and I need help --- not getting any - I want to hook it up to my computer -- I do not have smart phones, yfii or what ever --- I really would like to return it for refund --- Also I did not understand that it was for indoor use only-- I want it outside to watch my home. Very disappointed in this product December 30, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Better than expected! It set up quite easily with my smart phone. Seeing the image on the computer was more of a challenge and didn't work all the time like I had hoped but it isn't made for that. It is a smart phone accessory. I was able to move it all over just by plugging in the AC plug for power and it found the wifi router on its own after initial set up. One time I put it in the window where it worked very well for looking out over the entrance to my property. I'm having trouble with the memory card but haven't looked at it closely yet to determine why it won't work. The sound did not work well going either way but again; this isn't what I wanted it for. Overall happy with the product at the price I paid for it. December 30, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by To "Floss Daily" and everyone else.... With this camera "you get what you pay for." This camera works ok for the money but for a baby monitor, the better camera I found would be the expandable Motorola wireless 2 camera package called the "Motorola Hubble". This camera works perfectly when connected to wifi and monitoring using my IPhone or Smart phone with all free apps and nothing to purchase separately. The 2 camera expandable package "Hubble" is insanely cool and was what myself and most others are looking for $150.00. It can expand to more cameras if desired by purchasing another camera for $99.00 then link wirelessly. December 11, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by You get what you pay for... I got it hooked up which wasn't too difficult. I installed the app which was easy enough. Every time I would go to view the "live" feed it wouldn't work. It would show an old photo of the area and I thought about troubleshooting, but didn't feel like it should be that complicated and it seemed to be working the day before for a brief period of time. The view was slow then and seem to freeze up even on the first day. I also have 25mbps download speed which should be adequate. I will be returning it and finding something more reliable. I believe the app may be part of the issue. December 26, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very disappointed in my purchase The camera setup is relatively easy but the camera application sucks. 90%of the time it won't connect and when it does and you try to review video it's very slow. Also when you try to find video within a given time it will display a time stamp but it doesn't change as the video replays so if you watch say 5 minutes of video and see something you want to come back to have no point of reference to come back to it without watching the whole 5 minutes again to get back to that spot. I also have yet been able to setup the application using my desktop pc using the instructions to access the camera via the web. I've barely been able to connect using my tablet. It has a motion activated feature but I have not been able to figure out how it works. January 13, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst purchase ever! I've had this product for 4 months and still have not gotten it to work. First step is to register the product as part of the installtion process. Have NEVER been able to get it registered with any of my Android devices. Tried using a Chromebook, same issue. Each attempt comes back with an Error, unable to transfer data. Tried on home network and public network, same issue. At this point, thr product is a brick. Appears to be a common issue, per app feedback. February 26, 2015
