Customer Questions & Answers

Is PoE device included?

Instructions describe how to install using a POE power injector but I couldn't find if it comes included.
Asked by: MarioR
It has 8 jacks, if you want to hook up more than 8 cameras you will need to spend another hundred bucks for a 8 jack poe.

Does this system support all 16 channels with Poe ?? Or is its 8 Poe and 8 non Poe

Asked by: BW
The NVR included in this package (QT8516-2) has 8 POEs (Power Over Ethernet) ports in the rear of the unit. The NVR can record up to 16 channels but only has ports for 8 cameras. So you have to run the additional 8 cameras into a switch where the system will detect and record them. The marketing for this product is very deceptive because it is clearly labeled with a mark that says "Connect 16 Cameras." Other than that, the system works pretty well. I can't complain

Not what I expected, after numerous times searching the Q See site I have come up empty when searching for the manual for model number QT8516. Also, when trying to setup to view the system on my PC it told me that Windows 10 was to new of a version for their download.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Kept false triggering on motion detection. Difficult to setup for remote monitoring I purchased this system because the specs look good. The reviews were so/so - some good and others not so good. I am an Electrical Engineer by trade so I am very technical. The hardware provided was of fairly good quality, images from the cameras were good. The NVR seems to mostly work as advertised. The setup took ~4 hours for the DVR alone, with a lot of searching the web for how to configure port forwarding of my router manually since the recommended uPNP approach didn't work. I can't imagine someone non-technical being able to get it setup. Once I had that working I installed a camera and set it up to email me on motion detection. I received 170 emails overnight for false motion detection. I lowered the sensitivity to a '1' (the lowest setting) and also reduced the grid area for motion. I still received hundreds of false triggered motion events / emails per day. It triggers on anything, even if the sun comes out from behind a cloud, that's enough to trigger it. I called tech support, they said I had everything configured correctly and there was nothing else they could do. No firmware update, no recommendation to swap cameras, nothing. They then closed the case and I got an email saying issue resolved. Not! I promptly took advantage of Home Depot's generous 90 day return policy. Motion detection would be really nice because it will email you when it detects something of interest, and you can go directly to that when reviewing the video. Otherwise you would have to spend hours fast forwarding video to (maybe) see something of interest. So it won't work for me without this feature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible System The quality of this system far exceeded my expectations. The video quality is excellent. Extremely easy to install. No need for power at the camera as the power is supplied down the cat5e cable from the recorder. The system is a little tricky to learn to use, but fairly intuitive. One negative is lack of owners manual, and the one that is on the website does not include this model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional Quality! I had been looking for a surveillance system for some time when Home Depot featured this as a "Today Only" special. The 8-camera package was not only an exceptional buy but had all the features I was looking for. During the day the cameras provide crystal clear video in full color and even in total darkness at night the IR cameras render remarkably clear black & white images. The 3tb hard drive assures ample storage even at the highest settings. I installed the system myself and while running cables from under the eaves of my house, through my attic and down the wall to the NVR was anything but easy, actually setting up the cameras and system once the cables were in place was fairly simple. Connecting the NVR to my TV was as easy as plugging in the HDMI cable. It took about an hour to figure out how to view the system on my computer, tablet and phone but that was mainly due to me not being tech savvy. I'm now able to view all eight cameras from any location and even capture images or video directly to my computer, tablet or phone. I've only had the system up and running for a couple of weeks now but it is working flawlessly. The cameras & NVR seem to be of excellent quality and I am hopeful they will continue to work for years to come. The two-year warranty gives me peace of mind if something does fail.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from On the News I have been wondering which system to buy for my house. One day I saw on the news pictures of 3 men trying to break into a home in Castro Valley Ca. The pictures were as clear as looking thru a window. It took pictures of 3 men entering from the front, side and back of the home. I immediately contacted the Alameda County Sheriff's Department. This was the system the homeowner had. I bought it and am waiting to have it installed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just an ok system. I really wanted to like this system, but it has way more issues than it does positives for my use. The cameras are great quality, mounting is a bit iffy since it comes with 3 smalls screws that can easily rip off if not mounted securely. It comes with enough cat5 cable to connect each camera to the recording unit. The recorder is underwhelming, which to me the more tech oriented home owner expected more out of. When I opened the unit the first thing i noticed was something rattling around inside the recorder. It might be a screw or transistor, but thus far the unit still works. You'll know the unit is working because it is obnoxiously loud. You cannot be in the same room with it peacefully, the fan will drive you insane and it puts out some heat. I would mount it in a linen closet, but there are no power outlets in mine. This unit takes up two outlets and needs to be hardwired to a router. If you want to connect a monitor to it, you must use VGA or HDMI. No DVI input. The software for the unit leaves much to be desired. It is very clunky, requires Internet Explorer and the installation of proprietary software. This unit is suitable for a cheap store surveillance unit. I wouldn't recommend for home use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WORKS GREAT Everything needed was included in the packaging except there were no operating instructions. We had to download the manual on the internet, which turned out to be the manual for a different model number .We called Q See customer service, which sent us the correct manual. They were very helpful. We tested the cameras to make sure that they worked(they did) and set up the software on the computer. Then we hired professionals to install the cameras. It took them approximately four hours(3 guys) to install them. The picture quality is excellent, even at night. It is very sensitive on motion detection mode, even picking up insects flying by. It records almost all the time, as it even picks up cars driving down the street. This is not a negative because the system automatically deletes older recordings. It has a range of 100 feet day and night, which is more than adequate. We are very happy with the system.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buy with caution! I purchased this security system twice recently. Both times, Home Depot was great! First time, I ordered, it was missing the extra POE hubs to piggy back the cameras so you can get a total of 16 channels. Returned to Home Depot and I ordered again by phone and wanted to buy at sale price, no problem customer care give me an extra 10% off from the sale price for my trouble. Great, I thought what else could go wrong? Order came super fast! This time, I opened the box at Home Depot, the same problem, NO POE HUBS! Without them, you actually only have 8 channels. Your paying for 16 channels but, actually getting 8 channels unless you pay extra for the POE HUBs! Contacted Q-see, stated hubs are extra that you need to buy them if you want 16 channels. Not Home Depot fault!
