If you want to view the camera system from a remote location, the DVR must be connected to an internet service at the local installation site. You will then be able to use the free Android or iPhone apps to view your remote system over the internet. If you do not have an internet service at your remote location, you could look into a WiMax service from Clear, Verizon or other cellphone provider. These would allow your DVR to connect to the internet without having to install a hard wired Ethernet network and router.
If you do not connect the DVR to the internet, it will still record surveillance activity from the cameras, but you will have to go to your site every so often and sit and watch the recorded footage to see what is happening. Read Less

Howdy Danrmcculley,
Yes you would have to have internet on both your home and the location you are viewing. Of course if you are home and want to view your home from the monitor, you can view it in real time.

Answer:
Hi Art,
The audio connections can be used to hook up a microphone to record audio recordings. We have a microphone on Home Depot.com that you can purchase and connect to the DVR.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by it works fine, but could come with more instructions Not the sharpest pictures, but I guess ok for the price January 9, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Sorry system, will not work as advertised I have attempted to connect this system for several days an have contacted tech help several times. This system will not connect to the internet to be seen over the internet from my laptop. Nothing has helped to correct this problem. I am very dissatisfied with the system all together. #1 the connecting lines are too short. They want to sell me another 100 ft cable which is too long adding to the already strung cables for an additional amount. #2 the system records all the time no matter what the settings are set at. The main problem is it will not stay connected and they blame AT&T for the problem. It isn't AT&T it is the Q-See system that is the problem. All the time I have spent attempting to get this system to work has caused me lots of lost time and money. June 10, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Don't expect much. Worthless at night. Color reproduction is horrible. White balance is horrible. Settings do nothing as far as corrections go, It just goes from bad to worse. Fixed focus lens. The unit itself is cheaply made. Inadequate venting on case. On a pc the software only works with Internet Explorer. This is more like a kids toy. Now I have to go buy four cameras to replace these junk ones. May 29, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Good Value Purchase Didn't expect hi-tech surveillance equipment but it sure was a surprise that with some configuration, the motion and recording features (including night infrared) are really good. It's sensitivity can be set so high that even a fly can trigger action! Cameras are well designed and discrete but noticeable enough to deter observant (human) intruders. May 21, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Product at a great value The product was priced at a bargin and was shipped/received within the anticipated timeline. The cameras were easy to install and the software was easy to navigate through. Bought this product due to a recent break-in and I wish I would have bought it a long time ago! Well worth getting!! April 26, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent system for the price The system is excellent for the price. The DVR software is very straight forward. After installing the cameras I plugged the camera and the Ethernet cables in, turned on the power and had the software configured with remote viewing via the free android and iPhone apps within 10 minutes or so. Very, very easy. The camera picture quality is very good during daylight hours but two of my cameras are a little grainy at night time. The other two are fine. I think it is probably because they are operating on the very edge of the 40' night vision limit. The only downside to this system I found is that the provided cables are only 60' long. I wish the kit would have contained at least one but ideally two x 100' cables. This would have made installation a whole lot simpler. Q-See and Home Depot do sell extension cables for $15 or so, however the home depot stores in my local area do not carry any surveillance system parts or accessories so I would have had to order online and delayed my installation to a later weekend. I would definitely recommend this product to friends, but I would also advise them to buy a couple of extension cables at the same time. February 26, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by GREAT PRODUCT FOR THE PRICE PRODUCT EASY TO INSTALL ENJOY THE FEATURE OF BEING ABLE TO VIEW THE CAMERA FROM MY PHONE. May 24, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not all bad The picture is pretty 'grainy' at night. The daytime picture isn't bad, you can actually make-out facial features... This is fine for what we need. April 6, 2013
