Customer Questions & Answers

to avoid wasting useage, (as a security camera, both inside and outside) can it be set to run only when motion detection occurs?

Intend to use camera at d'way gate, (100 ft away), door entrances to house, and maybe one or 2 inside. Next question; night vision. If car pulls up with headlights, does it interfere with clarity of subject around car?
Asked by: jumpy
Yes you can set each channel to record at different types of recording such as 24hrs, on a schedule or for motion. These are settings that you can make on the NVR unit itself per channel. As far as the light you can start recording a couple seconds before and after motion occurs and it will auto adjust to the light.

POE or separate power connection?

The manual says "DC12v, PoE" but upon inspection on receipt the cameras come with a ethernet connection and a power connector. Do the cameras get power from the category cable? Just opened the box yesterday and I'm underwhelmed with the documentation out of the box and on the net for the actual equipment so far.
Asked by: jeff
The POE is actually embedded into the NVR unit itself. The cameras can be run on their own and don't need to necessarily be plugged into the NVR they can be ran using Ethernet cable that is included and connected to a separate POE which is then connected to a router.

Customer Reviews

Platinum Series 4-Channel 720p 1TB NVR with (4) 720p Indoor/Outdoor Cameras, 100 ft. Night Vision is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tons of Features and Excellent Video Quality I installed this Heritage Series Surveillance System in a house my wife and I have been slowly fixing up. The home is in a small town about an hour and a half away from where we live. The home sits on a couple of acres. The closet neighbor recently told us that there have been people parking in the driveway on a few occasions which has caused a bit of concern. This system can use up to eight cameras but the four it came with worked nicely for our needs. Getting everything connected was a breeze but running the wires was a monster of a chore. The home is rather old and moving around in the dark, musty, attic was no fun at all. I spread the job out over three weekends and ended up replacing the insulation and installing some boards and lighting. The home is empty for the mort part so I hide the DVR in a closet with a small TV. While I wanted remote monitoring, I couldn't justify paying for internet service just for that reason. My wife and I have been to the home twice since this system was installed. We have it set to record only when motion is detected. We've seen people on the property when we review the footage, but as soon as someone sees the cameras they quickly leave. The video quality on the camera that faces the driveway is good enough to read license plate numbers. It took a lot of work to get this completely installed but it's well worth all the effort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Instant Home Video Surveillance Q-See continues to develop a packaged home surveillance system, one that is easy to install, while fitting any budget. This package comes with 4 versatile indoor/outdoor high quality cameras, capable of 720p recording. Linking any mobile device or tablet is as simple as scanning a QR code. Can connect to a computer monitor or a television set. Installation - Out of the box everything comes organized, and neatly packaged. Starting with the HD DVR it is capable of up to 8 cameras. (this set comes with 4, you can add 4 additional) Additionally you have the option of adding PTZ cameras, as well as audio. There are many options for connectivity on the back. If you want to use the remote viewing feature, it will need to be hardwired with an Ethernet cable. (this may restrict placement of the DVR unit) The included cables should be more than plenty for most homes. They do not recommend running the cords in the walls without them being installed in a conduit. This is also another issue, but I was able to run through basement / attic to conceal wires to the outdoor cameras. The connections to the camera contain power and the BNC signal. There is the need for an additional power outlet in addition to the DVR plug, this will power up to 4 cameras. The connections are simple, although the connections at the camera end can be tricky, due to placement on the wire. But it is very convenient to be able to disconnect/connect at both ends of the cable. There is a template for the camera mounts provided, making camera installation simple. Setup – When powering on the setup wizard begins, walking you through the steps to set your system up. During this time you can setup any mobile or tablet device you would like, by scanning the QR code. (If connecting to a network) Additionally you can access the DVR and settings, as well as view through a web browser. Overall it was a fast and simple process. Viewing – The cameras provide clear and high quality video, great color, sharp, even with the night vision. There are many options for recording the cameras, from all the time, to motion detect to setting a manual schedule. Remote viewing is easy and simple on any device. Overall this system was surprisingly easy and simple. High quality and thought out design. Wish there was an wireless option for this system for better placement. Not a huge issue as I have ethernet installed in every room. But those with only one access point may have to plan for that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good equipment, not crazy about the software I picked this up on a special for $400, so i can't complain about much. The night vision cameras are heavy and well made with great images. The DVR is compact and makes about the same noise as my frontier box. Came with plenty of cable. Cameras came with both POE and separate power connectors. Only Cat 5 cable needed. I haven't set up the remote viewing yet i'll follow up when i tackle that. The set up program through the DVR looks like an old Bios set up screen, at least it's mouse driven. Tool tips would be nice. The motion sensor activation is nice but counter intuitive to my thinking. The user creates shaded areas to indicate coverage, not the other way around. The biggest complaint i have is that the cameras cover only about a 50 deg angle, I would have expected at least 90 or more. Cat 5 connectors for cameras are big, so a big hole needs to drilled to fit. I don't have a big enough need to pay $800, but it is a good package.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Camera system Replace an old camera system, cannot compare picture quality. It was on sell so I bought 2 of them. Now I have 8 cameras & a backup recorder. Saved myself a lot of money. HD picture looks fantastic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great system.: Be aware of particular aspects of this system. Just purchased and installed. This is the second system I purchased. Returned a Defender Pro series with 8 cameras because the cameras viewing area was too narrow - only 60 degrees- and I would have needed 2 cameras to cover what the Heritaged HD cameras covered with one camera. The HeritageHD comes with 4 wide viewing angle cameras. If you decide to add on cameras as I did, be aware that not just any 720p cameras can be added. The analog HD DVR will only adapt to Q-SEE cameras with a prefix of QCA.. Most of the cameras manufactured by Q-See ARE NOT compatible as are most if not all cameras available by other manufacturers. At this date: March 27 2015, we were told this was a brand new type of system offered by Q-SEE. Note that these 720p cameras, unlike 960H or D1 type cameras are High Definition. These not only offer a greater level of details but facial and license plate recognition from 50 feet or more away depending on cameras. In addition, the viewing angle of the camera is around 72 to 75 degrees - as opposed to 60 degrees for most 960H or D1 type cameras unless they offer a wide angle viewing. However, facial and license plate recognition with a standard definition 960H or D1 is very poor. Be aware when you shop, that 720L which some manufacture define their cameras as, is a TVL rating used in standard definition. While some manufacturers offer high TVL ratings on their cameras, one could say this is somewhat deceptive since you cannot cram more that 720 TVL down the cable and hence cannot record it. Although not as good as a 1080p rated camera, HeritabeHD cameras with 720p rating are really quite good when compared to standard definition surveillance camera systems. The DVR included with the HERITAGEHD is what the manufacturer calls an analog HD DVR particular to Q-SEE. When the system reboots, a single loud tone lets you know it is doing so which is a positive. .A continuous fan cools the dvr, pretty much like a desktop computer fan- which is also good in my view. Generally speaking, I am quite happy with this system.
