The cameras give very good resolution for analogue systems. The housing and hardware is very durable, easy to install, and lock in to almost any direction. The recorder works well and has most features I would expect in a DVR device. Some warnings: the device is shipped with uPnP enabled, which means it automatically opens up most peoples firewall to allow anyone on the internet to access the system. This can be disabled in the devices settings or on most firewalls. Second, both username and password are limited to 6 characters, meaning most modern bot-nets can guess the username/password combination in a few minutes to hours.
The 8 cameras on 16 channels at the price I got it at ~$400 is a great deal and it allows you to add additional cameras if needed without purchasing a new DVR.
The night vision works well as the Infrared LEDs provide excellent visibility, but they are a narrow beam so if there are objects too close to the camera you can end up not seeing things beyond them. This is easily augmented with several infrared flood lights available on the market. If you do need to purchase a supplemental infrared flood light, make sure it uses "850nM Infrared Wavelength" as that is the frequency the cameras expect to view.

This is the best home security camera system I have ever owned. The designers of this system made it easy to use and program. The night vision is excellent, far superior to my other system. Your security lights will not affect its performance rather improve its night vision without glare. What really impressed me was the ability to easily program the unit not to trigger on normal movement areas such as the bush or tree or anything that moves in the wind without having to lower its sensitivity level. The unit has an alarm built right into the compact main unit. If someone disables one of your cameras it will alert you with an alarm clock type of beep, you can also turn on the alarm for any sensitive area in the house were there should be no movement such as in front of your safe. The alarm can be programmed to be armed 24/7 or only at certain times, which is so convenient. All this programming is in plain and simple terms that makes this unit my choice.

I was a little skeptical about placing cameras around the outside of my house because they can vandalized, but I know now that I made a great choice. The cameras have given me a heightened feeling of security and I know that I will have video evidence if something ever does go wrong.
The night vision feature is a big plus and the clarity is above what I had expected. I am not entirely sure of the level of difficulty that is entailed with the actual wiring of this because I had an electrician friend wire the entire system as well as mount the cameras. He did not take more than a few hours to complete the process, but I wanted to make sure that they would be in full working order.
Highly recommended for people looking to boost home security at their place of residence.

I ordered this kit as a homeowner with dogs and a small child, primarily for safety and visibility rather than security. I thought it would be nice to have a recording of anything that might happen in or around our house, and also have real-time mobile access to live video. We have a wireless video camera in the nursery, but it could only be expanded to a maximum of four cameras, which would require frequent moving of cameras just to keep an eye on our toddler.
As a homeowner, I think the DVR base unit is absolutely perfect. It is smaller than any of our media equipment and is only barely large enough to have just enough space for all of the plugs and connectors on the rear of the unit. However, take note of the fact that nearly identical cameras are sold as non-working decoys to act as a deterrent—because they stand out like a military compound when installed inside or outside a home.
The widescreen format is nice, and the resolution is adequate for most applications. However for the price you may want to opt for something capable of true-HD. Since the recorder can handle 16 cameras, but the kit only includes 8, you do have some flexibility to customize your system with different cameras to meet your specific needs. Personally, I only found one location where I was able to install one of the included cameras.
My primary interest was the app, which is very solid once you have it set up. However setup is somewhat difficult and the interface is quite utilitarian and functional, but not very user friendly. Overall, a solid performer that is probably of little benefit in residential applications, but could be a great fit for anywhere that you want an obvious security presence.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Rook Great System for the money! Super Easy to use!
We bought two of these systems to replace older units. We have used Q See products before without any issues. This new system is very easy to setup and use and is far better than our old system. The cameras provide clear pictures and the motion detection is great. At the price we paid I expect to replace the system every 4 to 5 years, even if still working, to keep up with the new versions being put out. Q See customer service is great and very helpful when needed.
