CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 117 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent System Once You Get It Installed Q-See makes surveillance systems for just about every size home or business and for just about any budget. I think this particular model is perfect for the average home owner trying not to break the bank but still wanting a quality system. There are models that come with more cameras, higher resolution cameras, larger DVRs, remote controls, etc. but this one does the job nicely. Everything needed is included with this system. The four included cameras have a 700 TVL resolution. That is more than sufficient to identify someone coming onto your property. The 1 TB hard drive is quite large and will hold days of video footage. The system is controlled by a small mouse that plugs into the back of the DVR. I quickly dug out an old full size mouse I had to replace it. Even with my smallish hands, the included mouse was a pain to use. Hooking everything up for testing was a breeze. The hard part is actually installing the system (at least for me). I have a 2800 sq. ft. two-story home. Normally I would run the cables in the attic but being in a two-story home, that would have the cameras too far up. Right now I'm still trying to figure the best way to get everything setup. The DVR is also an issue since it needs to be connected to the router if you want remote access. Don't let any of this discourage you. Just take it into consideration and plan ahead. I was quite surprised and very pleased with the large amount of options this system offers (despite being one of the cheaper models). You can set up schedules for recording. You can record only when motion is detected. You can decrease the video quality the DVR records at to allow greater recording time along with numerous other options. I love the remote monitoring but must say that it takes some know how to set up. A decent knowledge of your router is needed. I build computers and set up my wireless router myself but still felt challenged getting the remote access up and running. My best advice is to read the directions well, get some help, or go the pro install route. Despite all the effort to install, the security and peace of mind you get from having it makes it all worth while. August 1, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by inexpensive information Now i know what's going on at night around my property. After only 3 nights I spotted the crooks who stole my gas cans a week ago and RV batteries earlier in the year. This time they were looking in my yard for more stuff they could rip off. I'm pretty sure they noticed the cameras glowing in the dark. People like them know these things because they're crooks. They haven't been back since. This is the reason I purchased this system....low cost, easy install, immediate results. I grab a cup of coffee every morning and breeze through video footage of the night before. I see what my kids are doing, the neighbors, lurking animals and how often the police patrol my street. It's also pretty cool that I can monitor all this from anywhere using my iPhone. I can see the kids and wife swimming in the pool from wherever. My friends think that's pretty cool too. Bet they'll have one set up soon themselves. July 6, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by This product is everything we wanted and more. We purchased this product on line after researching the features. We received it in a reasonable time, shipped to our home. We already had a camera system, this system was an upgrade. After installation we were surprised at how much better the cameras and recordings were, you could really tell the difference. The system program gives us more options and is very easy to learn and use. We have it feed to our computers as well as the monitor. We would recommend this produce to anyone. September 4, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Loaded with features Seen this on sale couldn't pass up the price. Cameras have really great pictures day and night vision is really good also very pleased, except for trying to get system online, no paper manual just a cd, guess I'm old fashioned. Doesn't keep me from recommending it though, would be great for business applications too, cameras very clear not grainy like most. August 27, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Horrible software. This unit has decent operation in recording. It is fairly easy to setup, but it will take a while to learn how. The cable BNC connectors are good and give the unit an air of professionalism. They are also more reliable than other types. I do like the option to allow lower resolution recordings in order to extend the recording time greatly. The case is an attractive one but the storage (virtual drive) indicator on the top never seems to light up when the unit is recording. Nothing is intuitive about the software. Sometimes you are supposed to double click when you would think single clicking is expected, sometimes the reverse. Other times you need to right click. When reviewing a recording, the pause button is unavailable when viewing at any speed but the lowest. You have to click on the Run button to get the regular speed and click on the same button again to pause. Having to click twice because there is no separate pause button means you can overshoot your frames of interest. Then you have to use the reverse button. The mouse is one of those little "travel size" ones for no apparent reason, too small to be easily used. The auto switching from IR to regular mode is too narrow, sometimes resulting in constant clicking back and forth between modes. That can happen if the lighting is marginal, like around dusk. That triggers the motion sensing circuit and you get unwanted recordings, many many times for no reason. Don't get me started about the network software. After 3 hours of struggling, I gave up on it, The quick guide to do the initial network setup is very clear and concise. But I found the application to be impossible to use. The disc supplied would not install on my pc with Win7-64bit. It just gave an error message about being not compatible. The one on their web site would start the installer but didn't work. The installer showed only the upper half of the screen and there was no way to proceed, so it had to be aborted with Task Manager. So, I have no network capability. The quick start guide shows a procedure (B) for connecting an RCA-type analog cable to the TV but no such connection or cable exists on this unit. And can you believe this? : When the IR lamps are lit, as would be the case in darkness, they are plainly visible to the naked eye. That makes the camera really stand out in the darkness. And there is no way to cover up those without losing the ability to record in darkness. I have never seen IR emitter LED's that gave off visible light! So your typical intruded will be alerted to the presence of the camera. August 27, 2014
