I purchased the system in mid-April 2014. The system is up and running a few weeks later. I have requested 4 RMAs in 5 months. 6 out of 8 cameras were sent back to Q-see due to color problem, blurry image, and failed night vision. The DVR begins beeping randomly every other weeks. To stop the loud beep, I have to log onto the DVR, navigate to Setting> Advanced> HDD and click the Alarm Release button. Returning the DVR in painful, meaning I am losing all my footage and not be able to record for a full week, so I waited until Sep when DVR finally gave up on me and it would NOT stop beeping. I have no choice but to return the DVR. These are all known issues from Q-see. When you request a RMA, they provide a drop down menu for you to chose from what kind of problem you are having, meaning someone else have had the same issue before.
I contributed additional $60 into the system, including extra cable, return shipping, power splitter, and wiring accessories. You will also need a computer monitor to operate the DVR. If you donât have one, that could be your additional cost. I just happen to have a spare one. You might also need a cordless drill, drill bits, ladder, pliers. Their warehouse is located in Anaheim, CA. Return shipping cost varies depend on your location.
RMA could be done via live chat on Q-see website. You will be troubleshooting with one of the tech agents first. If the problem could not be resolved, they will let you request a RMA. Their agents are easy to reach, overall knowledgeable and very helpful. Mail them the defective equipment at your own cost and they will mail you back a working unit free of charge. To prepare for RMA, you will need a Q-see account, priority mail label, shipping box, tape, proof of purchase.
The actual review
The Q-see system is very easy to install and operate. It also supports remote monitoring from your computer, smartphone, and tablet. Email alerts with still image is such a good idea, but the execution is poor. The picture resolution is incredibly low 352 x 240. It rarely capture the moving target. The feature could be configured via E-mail alerts, Motion Event, Image Setting. Donât forget to sign up for a new Gmail account for the massive amount of E-mail. Their support is very well prepared and consistent in my opinion. If you want a HD system that works like a toaster, you are looking into the wrong place. This is not an Apple IPhone 6 plus. This is more like a Samsung low-end smartphone.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Rhody401 Easy to set up, works very well from remote
We replaced a 12 year old black and white low res system with this. It was on sale for $399 at HD, and a good value. Out of the box, it had one incorrect transformer (220v larger pins, not 110v usa smaller pins) - and one defective camera cable. An email to tech support was quick to mail out replacement items. Alistair Campbell was very helpful. We mounted a 25" computer monitor to the wall, and have it rotating the camera views. We also can view it from any PC or laptop in the business, and remotely from our Android phones and Android tablets. The remote viewing is excellent, once you figure out how to set it all up and forward the router ports to a fixed IP. Installation was a breeze. It doesnt seem to do sound, though. Searching for previous recordings and saving snapshots and videos was easy, once I figured it out. You can do this on-site or remotely. Cameras switch to BW mode in low light conditions, as they should. I like that you can have it only record cams when it sees individual motion, and that you can mask out regions of the image to ignore for this sensor. (for example if part of image has cars going by, you can tell it to ignore sensing that movement to trigger recording)

We are very happy with this system. The resolution on the cameras is excellent, and the package is very complete. It comes with a tremendous about of wire and connections to help wire up your entire house. The only drawback is that that in order to watch your system on your smartphone, it takes up a lot of bandwidth. But, since it actually works on your smartphone, this is still pretty cool. The initial cost is a bit high, but there is no monthly payment, so it is cheaper than other options in just a few months.

This is a simple Plug n Play system. It is so easy to set up and get started. I foster dogs until a forever home can be found and I keep them in my spare bedroom and in the basement and checking on them and my dogs can get tiring so I'm setting up these wonderful camera's through the house so I can watch what they are doing from my computer desk or from my laptop while in bed. This not only saves me a lot of running up and down the basement stairs but it gives me a chance to see how the foster dogs are when no one is in the room with them. With 60 ft. of cable for each camera, you can put the DVR in a closet or somewhere in the central part of your home and reach your final destinations with ease. The camera's are well built and have a protective cover from the outdoor elements, along with multiple adjustments for aiming. There are over 2 dozen lights to capture nighttime pictures. I will use 5 cameras in the house to check up on the dogs and will have 3 cameras installed on the outside of my house. I will have them properly hardwired through the attic and basement walls. The wires will be drilled through the closet flooring for the basement camera's and through the ceiling and wall into the bedroom and front room. From my computer or laptop (I don't have a smartphone yet) I can see all 8 screen shots, or 4 screen shots or I can double click the mouse on a certain camera and see 1 large screen shot. With 1 TB of video on the hard drive of the DVR, I won't miss any action for a long long time. It's going to be fun experimenting with the different functions of this unit online, but I think the most fun is going to be watching my dogs when they don't know that I'm watching them. If you are looking for a good, easy Plug and Play system without becoming a rocket scientist first, this is the unit you will want to buy. It has everything you need to protect your property, both inside and outside. P.S. It did say I could see the pictures from a smart phone when I'm away from home, so that will probably be the next item I purchase. I'm very please with this security system!

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Victor Top-notch Surveillance system
When I received the package I was surprised to see a lot of components for the system and thought it would require some professional installation. But that was not the case itâs fairly straightforward even if you do not use the installation manual (Yes itâs included with the package). The supplied cables were long enough to cover my whole house. The build quality is fantastic and does not feel cheap like the other surveillance systems. They have included almost every accessory that you need, including the HDMI cable to hook up your LED. The cameras offer full HD recording as well as live feed, which upon comparing with my older system seems to be leaps and bounds ahead. You can also change the resolution as per your requirement. Everything looked crystal clear on the feed. The hard drive has 1TB capacity which will give you ample recording time. Accessing the feed on web browser was fairly easy too (they have given the instructions for that as well). The night vision also looks fantastic and you can easily see things in dark (looked like paranormal activity recording :). Only difficulty I had was while using the Smartphone app (tried both iphone and android), I was not able to hook it up somehow. I do not need it, so it was not a deal-breaker for me, hence I am not deducting any points. I am sure if you talk with their customer care you can get that working. Other than this issue the product is excellent. Highly recommended if you are looking for a top notch surveillance system.
